Rev. Alex Awad at Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church

Rev. Alex Awad will be visiting on Sunday, August 9. His visit will include several significant events designed to foster understanding and encourage thoughtful reflection among attendees.

From 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., Rev. Awad will lead a class based on “The Two Covenants: A Biblical Alternative to Christian Zionism.” This session will delve into the concept of God choosing all nations and all people. During the class, Rev. Awad will address the causes of the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel and facilitate a discussion on how Christians can respond to Israel’s ongoing genocide of Palestinians following this event.

At 11:00 a.m., Rev. Awad will deliver a sermon titled “Creative Peacemaking,” drawing from Matthew 5:23-26 and Jeremiah 7:1-11. The message will focus on approaches to peacemaking rooted in scripture.

Rev. Awad and his wife Brenda served as missionaries for 26 years in Israel and Palestine, working with the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church.

The first Thursday of each month the group will meet in person. Please reach out to Soni for locations.

We would be grateful to have others join us. Email Soni at soni.castleberry@gmail.com to get the Zoom link and be added to the group email list for regular communication.

DID YOU KNOW? What Presbyterians Believe

This June in Milwaukee, the PC(USA) General Assembly passed policies on Palestine including https://www.pc-biz.org/search/3001425

Call the government of Israel's war in Gaza perpetrated with US support against the Palestinian people a genocide and condemn the government of Israel's violation of the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the war against Gaza that began in 2023.

Encourage Presbyterian members, deacons, ruling elders and ministers of Word and Sacrament, and the Office of Public Witness to contact members of Congress and the President to urge them to block military sales to and purchases from Israel until Israel complies with all U.S. and international laws prohibiting sales of military equipment to countries in violation of international human rights laws, including the prohibition of Genocide.

Encourage members of the Presbyterian Church to refrain from buying products made or distributed by Israeli companies whose work and/or products contribute to violations of international laws concerning genocide until the PC(USA) determines Israel complies with all international human rights laws, including the prohibition of Genocide.

Stand against all forms of Antisemitism/Anti-Jewish racism and Islamophobia/Anti-Arab racism, condemning both as pernicious forms of evil, dividing and separating us from our interfaith siblings, stand with those threatened with any harm that inhibits their full participation in the life and liberty of our communities, and affirm that the actions of the secular Israeli government do not represent the will of all Israelis, or the global Jewish population.

Affirm that criticism of the government of Israel is not inherently Antisemitic.

Encourage our member congregations to pray, study, preach, and teach on this critical issue, and to seek additional information through the resources of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

Publicize this overture’s approval on the PC(USA) webpage, and as practical, in other print or digital formats, and encourage congregations to adopt this resolution, or write and affirm one themselves.

Condemn unequivocally all attacks by all parties involved in this conflict, recognizing the sacred worth and God-given dignity of every human life.

Condemn unequivocally the ongoing assault by Israeli settlers on Palestinians in the West Bank and call upon the Israeli settlers on Palestinians in the West Bank and call upon the Israeli government to take material steps to prevent attacks by settlers on Palestinians and enforce laws that prevent IDF troops from enabling or allowing settlers to commit attacks.

Condemn unequivocally the Israeli military’s targeting of Palestinian children in Gaza, East Jerusalem, and the West Bank.
