Together, we are the body of Christ ~ transforming people from members into disciples, moving more deeply into God's call to life and ministry, and extending our mission beyond the status quo.

After being destroyed by Hurricane Michael, the LGBTQ Center at St. Andrew's reopens its doors
By the Rev. Dr. Margaret Shepard, St. Andrew's Panama City
|
In October of 2018, the destruction caused by Hurricane Michael shut down Room 6, a space created by the LGBTQ Center of Bay County on the campus of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Then, on a beautiful Saturday in March, the community reunited with the grand reopening. "We've been, since the storm, rebuilding our Room 6, which is where all of our support groups [gather]," said the president of the LGBTQ Center of Bay County, Cindy Wilker.
The purpose of Room 6 is to provide a “safe place” where diversity is celebrated, and all people are respected, valued and affirmed, inclusive of their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.

Prayer walk brings forth scallop shells and Speedos
By Carl Walters, Grace Episcopal Church, Panama City Beach
|
It was a beautiful Sunday evening when we met at Pier Park in Panama City Beach. We had been invited by our priest, the Rev. Mary Alice Mathison, to participate in a prayer walk. We were both a bit anxious because we had not participated in anything like this before, but Mary Alice explained that we would simply walk quietly observing our surroundings and seeking God as we went. We started walking on the sidewalk to the east down Front Beach Road. As we went, there was a constant parade of cars and golf carts whizzing by as they processed away from Pier Park. We continued our walk for about 30 minutes and as we went along, the fervor of Pier Park waned slightly.
