Grey Matters 5K/10K

We are thrilled to be in our fourth year and look forward to once again bring people who have been affected by brain cancer and members of the community together to help spread awareness of the disease.

Proceeds from this year's event will go to the Letcher County group ICAN, who helps people in need, including cancer patients, and the St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

PVFD Cheat River Triathlon

Starts at 8:00AM

The course has been laid out and will be as follows. Mill Race Park in Parsons will be The starting point you will run 3.9 miles to Hendricks Park. At that point, you will Kayak or Canoe 3 + miles back to Mill Race Park. Then you will bike to Hendricks Park and back to Mile Race park to complete a 7-mile bike.

ALL PROCEEDS BENEFIT THE PARSONS VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT.

New River Gorge Rim to Rim 10K Run and Walk

May 15

New River Gorge, WV

The New River Gorge Rim to Rim 10K Race will be a running road race from one side of the New River Gorge to the other. This bucket list event will provide runners with breathtaking views throughout the course in the adventure sports capital of West Virginia, Fayetteville. Hosted by Adventures on the Gorge, racers will have access to resort amenities and finish at the rim side pool with a catered brunch.

The course will begin on the south side of Fayette Station Road and finish at Adventures on the Gorge. Racers should prepare for a decent of 1300 ft and a climb of 1300 ft with the steepest point being a 20% incline. The finish line will bring racers to the rim of the gorge with an overlook photo opportunity

Cpl. William B. Fulks Memorial 5K/10K

Hurricane, WV

Starts at 9:00AM

This trail event is a tribute to local hero, Cpl. Williams B. Fulks, who was assigned to the 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

On May 1, 2006, Cpl Fulks was wounded while conducting combat operations in Anbar Province, Iraq by an improvised explosive device (IED) which detonated beneath his Humvee near Fallujah. The blast inflicted second and third degree burns along with massive internal injuries. Cpl. Fulks succumbed to his wounds on Thursday, 18 May 2006 – just three days after his 23rd birthday. The proceeds from this race will support this local Marine Corps League Detachment in its pursuit to serve veterans of our community.

Take on this new spring challenge to stay motivated with your running and walking!

Route #1 - 125 Miles (2.08 Miles/Day)

(Parkersburg, WV to Morgantown, WV)

Route #2 - 250 Miles (4.16 Miles/Day)

(Morgantown, WV to Parkersburg, WV - Roundtrip)

All registered participants will receive a long sleeve shirt hoodie (with an option to upgrade to a rain jacket) as well as a commemorative finisher medal.
