Greetings!
Last week, The Atlantic published an article, Why Silicon Valley Is Turning to the Catholic Church, which reported on a decade-long conversation between Catholic theologians and Silicon Valley's biggest AI developers. The reason those tech leaders keep coming back is straightforward: our tradition asks questions they haven't thought to ask.
It has done this before. When the Industrial Revolution upended work and human dignity in the 19th century, it was Pope Leo XIII who grounded the response in Catholic Social Teaching, defending workers' rights at a moment when few others would. Pope Leo XIV has drawn the same parallel explicitly, describing AI as another industrial revolution and naming human dignity, justice, and labor as the stakes.
Our schools are positioned to carry that tradition forward with students.
AI is not going away. The question in front of us is how our students learn to use it with the kind of ethical grounding we are built to provide. At our upcoming Principal Meeting, Sam Procopio, principal at Bishop Blanchet High School, will lead a workshop in part focused on unpacking core AI literacy skills with that lens in mind.
Before we meet, I’d encourage you to read the article above. You might also consider looking at the DELTA framework out of Notre Dame, referenced in the article, or watch this two-minute video.

I shared last week about a couple of upcoming opportunities to promote in your communities and through your newsletters. The first is ASCEND: A Eucharistic Revival, taking place at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue on May 16. Click here to learn more and to register.
The second is an invitation to join Archbishop Etienne, Bishop Schuster, and thousands of the faithful on August 15 at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma for an outdoor Mass celebrating the Solemnity of the Assumption. Admission is free and all are welcome, though tickets are required. Click here to learn more and register.
Thank you for sharing and actively promoting these events within your community.
