MVRPC Releases New Miami Valley Economic Base Assessment

Miami Valley Economic Base Assessment

MVRPC is pleased to announce the release of the updated Miami Valley Economic Base Assessment. The assessment employs two common analysis techniques, a Location Quotient analysis and Shift-Share analysis, and was updated using the 2004 and 2023 employment data, provided by the Dayton Development Coalition.

Using interactive data visualization tool, the Miami Valley Economic Base Assessment provides information on which industries and occupations are most prominent in the area and their relative strength or weakness, in comparison to two reference areas, the State of Ohio and the U.S. To view the information, a user first selects a county of interest or the region and selects a comparison area either to the state or the nation to see how industries or occupations are faring. From here a user can see if industries or occupations are strong or weak and if they are growing or declining.

To view and learn more about the Miami Valley Economic Base Assessment, visit https://www.mvrpc.org/data-mapping/miami-valley-economic-base-assessment. For questions, please contact Kathryn Youra Polk, Principal Planner at kyoura.polk@mvrpc.org.

2025 Age Friendly Grant Announcement

In partnership with The Dayton Foundation and with the generous support of the Del Mar Healthcare Fund, we are now accepting proposals from jurisdictional members for the 2025 Regional Livability and Age-Friendly Communities Grants. It’s Your City, It’s Your World

Its your city its your world event

MVRPC staff participated in the “It’s Your City, It’s Your World 3rd Grade Planning Workshop presented by the City of Riverside Community Development division. This event was designed to help Riverside’s third-grade students think critically about urban planning and city development. Students participated in an interactive presentation followed by a group activity. By placing different types of buildings and land uses on a city map, students explored how communities work together to decide where things should go for a balanced and thriving environment. Students worked in teams and shared ideas. Students also learned about the role of a City Planner. MVRPC would like to thank the City of Riverside and Mad River School District for the invitation to participate in this event.

MVRPC Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Comprehensive Safety Action Plan Development

Work is officially underway for the region’s Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Comprehensive Safety Action Plan. Using the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration’s Safe Systems Approach (https://highways.dot.gov/safety/zero-deaths), this safety action plan aims to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries across the Miami Valley.

Throughout 2025, MVRPC will collaborate with local agencies and regional partners to gather data, identify high-risk locations, and seek public input on transportation safety improvements. This information will help create a list of projects and priorities, including infrastructure enhancements and programs that benefit all road users, such as transit users, pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. The development of this action plan is a necessary first step which will allow local jurisdictions to apply for future U.S. Department of Transportation SS4A implementation grants.

For more information about this important effort to enhance safety across the Region’s roadways, please visit mvrpc.org/ss4a or contact Elizabeth Whitaker, Principal Planner at ewhitaker@mvrpc.org.
