State of the Election:

Republicans Lead in Early Nevada Ballot Count

As of October 30, 2024, Nevada’s election is well underway, with about 60% of registered voters—around 790,000 ballots—already counted. Republicans currently lead by 40,500 ballots statewide, largely due to strong rural turnout, resulting in a 5.2% advantage. In urban regions, the landscape is more balanced: Democrats hold a slight edge of approximately 6,200 votes in Clark County, while Republicans lead in Washoe County by a similar margin. Clark County mail-in ballots, which favor Democrats 44-26, are providing modest gains, although in-person voting still leans Republican. With three days of early voting left, Democrats are relying on increased mail turnout in Clark to offset the GOP’s rural strength.

Rural counties, which typically lean heavily Republican, continue to fortify the GOP’s lead, with projections suggesting an 80,000-vote advantage if trends continue. However, the final results may depend on Washoe County, where Republicans currently have a slight edge, and Clark County’s remaining mail-in ballots. If mail turnout surges in Clark, it could significantly impact the statewide balance. As Election Day approaches, the outcome remains contingent on both parties maximizing turnout in these last crucial days across Nevada's diverse voting regions.

Nevada Speeds Up 2024 Vote Count with New Early Processing Rules

In Nevada, election officials anticipate a faster vote count in 2024, thanks to new rules allowing the early processing and counting of absentee ballots—an improvement from prior cycles that should reduce some delays. In-person votes can also be counted before polls close, which means initial results from early and in-person voting may be available sooner on Election Night. However, mail-in ballots, which play a significant role in Nevada’s vote-by-mail system, will be accepted up to four days after Election Day if postmarked by November 5. This extended deadline means that in closely contested races, particularly in populous areas like Clark County, the final count might still be pending a few days post-election.

Nevada’s enhanced procedures aim to balance timeliness with accuracy, especially as late-arriving mail ballots could impact tight races. As a crucial battleground state, even minor shifts in counties like Washoe and Clark could influence results, making any delay more impactful on the overall outcome. In contrast to other battlegrounds such as Pennsylvania and Wisconsin—where strict mail ballot processing rules can significantly delay results—Nevada’s streamlined approach reflects an effort to deliver timely counts. Nevertheless, election officials urge voters to remain patient, as securing an accurate and transparent count remains their top priority in this pivotal election.

ProStart Shines in the Spotlight

The Nevada Restaurant Association Foundation's ProStart program recently gained well-deserved recognition in a Las Vegas Review-Journal feature video, highlighting the impressive culinary talents of local high school students. At the Healthy Meals Summit at Caesar’s Palace, ProStart students collaborated with Chef Ann Foundation experts to create nutritious and affordable meals that meet USDA guidelines. Rancho High School’s Prinz Villagracia, part of the winning team, wowed judges with a creative Mexican-Asian fusion tofu taco, set to inspire healthier school meal options nationwide. We invite you to watch the video and see the impact of our Foundation's work in supporting young culinary talent, and encourage continued support for programs like ProStart, which helps students pursue their passion for the culinary arts.

National Guard to Support Safety on Election Day in Nevada

McDonald's Quarter Pounder Returns Following E. coli Outbreak

Governor Joe Lombardo announced the activation of 60 Nevada National Guard members to support local law enforcement on Election Day, November 5. These members will be stationed at facilities in Carson City and Las Vegas, assisting with traffic enforcement, building security, and communication coordination. Lombardo emphasized the importance of preparedness, stating that the activation is a proactive step to ensure swift responses to any challenges, such as a severe weather event. Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar also supports the measure, highlighting its role in freeing up resources for election officials focused on maintaining a safe and secure voting process. The activation demonstrates Nevada's commitment to voter safety and operational readiness during the critical election period.

McDonald's is reintroducing its Quarter Pounder burger to 3,000 U.S. locations this week after removing it from menus due to a recent E. coli outbreak, linked primarily to slivered onions rather than the beef patties. Approximately 900 locations in affected states, including Nevada, Colorado, and Utah, will serve the burger without slivered onions as a precautionary measure while the FDA investigates Taylor Farms, the supplier potentially responsible for the contamination. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that the outbreak impacted 75 individuals across 13 states, with 22 hospitalizations and one reported fatality. McDonald’s USA President Joe Erlinger issued a public apology to affected customers, reinforcing the company’s commitment to safety and supply chain adjustments.

Protect Your Business Against EEOC Litigation

With the EEOC reporting increased claims for 2024, it's crucial for employers to stay proactive. Key steps include annual harassment and discrimination training for all employees, using outside investigators if systemic discrimination is suspected, and regularly updating the employee handbook to ensure compliance. These measures not only help mitigate risks but foster a respectful workplace culture.
