Summer Fun: Exploring, Learning and Crafting Awaits you!

Welcome back to another monthly edition! It’s nice to connect with all of you again. As we enter summer, the weather is becoming more beautiful, and we have some exciting workshops to help you enjoy the season!

Next month, we're introducing new seminars designed to provide valuable insights for caregivers. First, we’re hosting a Fraud & Scam Seminar to help caregivers stay alert and avoid common traps. This seminar is not only beneficial for yourself but also provides essential knowledge to protect seniors and loved ones. Our second seminar is "Using Transit in the New Normal," in partnership with TransLink Canada. This session will explore efficient ways to use TransLink services, including safety protocols and tips on making your travels smoother. Both seminars are sure to be useful.

We also have new DIY workshops in August! Join us for the DIY Scrunchies Workshop, DIY Cross Stitch Card Workshop, and Mid-Autumn Lantern Making Workshop. These workshops are perfect for keeping you busy and creative this summer.

No month would be complete without a field trip. We will wrap up the month of August with a field trip exploring Queen Elizabeth Park located in central Vancouver. It's the perfect spot to enjoy a panoramic view of the whole area. This trip promises to be eye-opening and unforgettable.

Be sure to check out our events calendar for more upcoming workshops. May July be another month filled with laughter and happiness for all our caregivers!
Caregiver Hub Updates

Social prescribing is an approach that offers non-medical support to help older adults identify, set, and achieve personal health and wellness goals.

RCRG has our own Community Connector now- which they help to assist seniors in finding suitable local programs and services. They can provide regular check-ins to ensure individuals stay on track. This service is available to individuals who are:

  • 60 years of age or older [Exceptions may be made for individuals as young as 55 who are living with a chronic health condition]
  • Residing in Richmond
  • Experiencing or at risk of frailty, social isolation and/or loneliness, barriers to accessing community-based resources, or low income

We accept referrals from friends, family, community members, healthcare providers, and self-referral.

Caregivers' Sharing

How to Manage Your Expectations
  • As the availability and expectations of services change, give yourself permission to take a break: move your body, listen to music, look out the window, meditate, practice yoga, read a book, etc.
  • Give yourself permission to care for yourself as your body and mind process the change. This will help you navigate these difficult and unexpected shifts as you stay grounded
  • Think about the must-dos in your day and assign them using E.N.D (energizing, neutral, draining). Then decide how to approach them based on your energy levels
  • Redefine “what I think successful caring” looks like during this time to shift your perspective- take time to journal and reflect
  • Reflect on the worst case scenario and best case scenario to discover the middle ground of what can we live with and what is acceptable

Would you like to share your stories or tips? You cannot imagine how much you could inspire or help another in the community! You are welcome to call us at 604-279-7099, or email caregivernavigator@rcrg.org.
