Anchor is on the road to recovery

Greetings!

Imagine a scene of many dogs living in neglect, scarred, underweight, and lacking proper shelter. This is the heartbreaking reality for many animals rescued from overcrowded or unsafe conditions in the South.

For these innocent animals, getting onto a transport van to a shelter like WCHS is their best hope for the life they deserve.

Anchor is one of these lucky dogs, plucked from devastation and brought to safety at WCHS.

While his long journey to security is over, his journey to health is still underway.

Anchor arrived heartworm positive. Heartworm is a serious but preventable disease caused by parasites that live in the heart and blood vessels. If left untreated, these “worms” can cause lasting damage and eventually lead to heart failure.

Because the treatment requires significant medical expenses and a strictly quiet recovery period of several months, heartworm is often a major barrier to dogs being cleared for transport to new homes.

Because of your donations, we were able to say “yes” to Anchor. You made it possible for him to receive the life-saving treatment needed to clear the infection so his heart can stay healthy for years to come.

Anchor has already survived so much. Now, he is ready for the best part of his story: finding the patient, loving home he has always deserved.

Thank you so much for giving dogs like Anchor their second chance. Your kindness knows no bounds, and we are so grateful.

A happy ending for Millie

If you follow along on our social media channels, you'll recognize Millie. This sweet dog spent a few weeks with us at the shelter, and none of us could understand why.

She is the goofiest, most loving and endearing little lady we've encountered in some time. She'd choose one toy to bring outside and romp around with in her mouth, happily squeaking it while she bounced the full perimeter of the yard. She'd choose another toy to snuggle with in her kennel apres play. She always smiled when she met anyone new.

Her new mom saw what we saw. Millie jumped right into her heart, then her car, and then her bed, and now they are enjoying their new life together.

Thank you for making happy endings like this one possible!
