NATIONAL PLAY MONOPOLY DAY
National Play Monopoly Day on November 19th recognizes the iconic board game that lands us on Park Place, Boardwalk or even in jail.
Known as one of the most popular board games in the world, Monopoly was originally based on a board game designed by Elizabeth Magie in 1902. Since then, the game has been played by an estimated 500 million people since 1935.
The object of the game is to collect as many properties as you can to create a monopoly. When players land on your property, you get to collect rent. The more properties you own, the more money you make, too. But watch out, there are taxes and other fees involved. To win the game, you need to bankrupt your opponents and be the last landowner standing. Many families have house rules that make the game more interesting, too.
Monopoly also comes in numerous versions. Do you enjoy a particular book or movie franchise or hobby? The game likely comes in themes focusing on famous characters and likely scenarios. How about sports teams or pop culture? Monopoly money goes there, too!
Monopoly was published by Parker Brothers, an American toy and game manufacturer since 1883.

Lincoln Beach Redevelopment and Reopening Public Comments and Questions
NEW ORLEANS – The revitalization and reopening of the Historic Lincoln Beach located at 13904 Hayne Blvd., a treasured landmark in New Orleans history, is moving forward with a strong commitment to inclusivity and engagement. The City of New Orleans values the input of all members of the community in shaping the future of the reopening of the Beach.
The beach is currently closed, with the intent to reopen soon. However, your diverse community voices are not just important, they are key in shaping the future of Lincoln Beach as a space where everyone is welcome and entertained. As progress is being made in developing the master plan to restore and celebrate the history of this significant space, the project team remains deeply committed to your continued involvement in the planning process.
To ensure that Spanish-speaking residents have access to information and a platform to share their ideas and feedback, community public meetings, surveys, engagement opportunities, and printed materials related to the Lincoln Beach Master Plan are offered in Spanish. During community meetings, bilingual interpreters and facilitators are available to ensure every voice is heard and every story is valued.
The Lincoln Beach Master Plan project team has launched a survey following its Nov. 7 Public Milestone meeting. The survey aims to help build consensus on refining and prioritizing previously identified options for structures and amenities incorporating recreation, culture, history, and environmental guardianship on the beach site. The City of New Orleans wants to hear from the local Spanish-speaking population about their thoughts and desires for the beach. This input is welcome and crucial to this process.
For comments or questions about Lincoln Beach, community members can call 504-224-9531 (leave a message) or email lincolnbeach@nola.gov. Public feedback is important to the City and will help shape the future of Lincoln Beach. Feel free to communicate in your preferred language, whether Spanish or English.

What Is A Yellow Submarine, Anyway? 10 Colorful Songs Explained
Published on November 17, 2024
Credit: Icons8 Team
Music is a powerful tool that explicitly evokes all kinds of emotions. Colors, on the other hand, have a more subtle way of arousing feelings. Various theories have been developed to study the psychology behind colors and they all agree that they can be as powerful as music. So imagine what happens when you put those two things together. "Back to black" takes you right to the dark, low moments of life, while "Yellow Submarine" can already make you feel cheerful, doesn’t it?
Join us as we explore ten songs that have used colors to further express their messages.
1Purple Rain
Credit: Alexander A.
The first item in our list not only blends colors and music but also combines multiple music styles: rock, R&B, gospel, and orchestral music. Only Prince could have done it!
Purple Rain is a song from 1984, part of the album of the same name, written and performed by Prince with his backing band, The Revolution.
Now, what does it mean? Prince himself explained that it is a reference to the sky and it represents letting your faith guide you to be with the one you love, even when it seems impossible. Quite a profound start, isn’t it?
2Yellow Submarine
Credit: 2H Media
Songs, lyrics, and music are filled with individual interpretations which can vary greatly. Yellow Submarine by The Beatles is quite representative of that. The song, written by the English band as part of their album Revolver in 1966 was subject to opinions and interpretations from the very beginning.
Some deemed it empty of meaning, while teenagers of the time embraced it to create their own chants of protest. And some even take it as a metaphor for how The Beatles perceived themselves as prisoners of their own fame. Whatever we take as the truth, nobody can deny it is a great song.
3Back To Black
Credit: Volkan Olmez
Back to Black was written by English singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse in 2006 and instantly became an international success. Considering how short and troubled Winehouse’s life was, critics consider this song the purest expression of her complex mind.
It is her signature song and describes the difficult time she was going through at the time. Black is the color that best reflects how lonely life can get and how devoid of hope a person can get. Even in the most tragic ending, Winehouse still resonates with our society through this iconic song.
4Brown Eyed Girl
Credit: Ernesto Norman
Just another song that belongs in the greater leagues as it’s in the Grammy Hall of Fame, among other achievements.
Released in 1967,Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison describes, naturally, a romance of the past in the most nostalgic way. Innocence, youth, and happy memories are all implied in the lyrics and the upbeat rhythm completes the picture it paints.
5Blue Hawaii
Credit: Lo Sarno
Many songs, like this one, are written specifically for film productions. Blue Hawaii for example, was written in 1937 by Leo Robin and Ralph Rainger for a film called Waikiki Wedding.
However, that is not the only film featuring it, as it was so successful, that it received several covers in the following years. Probably, the most famous one was performed by Elvis Presley in the namesake film of 1961.
The color of the ocean and that dreamy location set the scene in a rather straightforward way and it makes us wish we were there, right?
6Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Credit: Victor Li
It is not uncommon to see hints of autobiographical notes in songs. Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road by Elton John and Bernie Taupin is said to contain elements from the latter’s childhood on the farm in Lincolnshire.
Whatever the truth is, this ballad reflects on the hardship behind fame and how the author longed for a simpler, more genuine life, away from the glamour.
Regarding Elton’s career, many critics go as far as saying this is one of his best songs, and the records it broke prove it!
7Red Red Wine
Credit: Kym Ellis
You may know Red Red Wine by UB40, but Neil Diamond originally wrote and performed this song in 1967.
Part of his second studio album, Just for You, the lyrics are easily relatable: Haven’t we all gone through a time when we thought a cup of red wine was somehow a way to forget about our troubles? Neil Diamond surely felt that when he wrote this song.
UB40 might have found it appealing as they re-recorded it 20 years later, which ultimately led to an overwhelming success for them.
8Paint It, Black
Credit: Kilian Seiler
We don’t need to describe The Rolling Stones success, an over-40-years career speaks for itself. Among its many hits, Paint It, Black is the one that belongs in our article.
Originally writtenby Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, the song explores themes of grief and despair. It is narrated from the point of view of a person who lost their loved one and wants everything in black to match their mood. It is worth mentioning that, as with most iconic songs, it has received different interpretations. In any case, the topics are universal and the song is a hit still today!
9Pink Cadillac
Credit: Clem Onojeghuo
Musicians don’t always have to resort to black to express intense feelings. When the experience needs to be energetic and powerful, other colors get to play. That was what Bruce Springsteen was thinking when he wrote Pink Cadillac in 1984.
Romantic attraction, desire, escapism, and more topics of the sort have raised some controversy around the meaning, but that wasn’t enough to keep it from the Billboard chart for 14 weeks straight.
10Yellow
Credit: Alexey Lin
The new millennium brought amazing things and Coldplay the British band was one of them. Included as the second single of their debut album Parachute, the song gave the band its first top-five hit in the United Kingdom.
But that wasn’t it, thanks to this song, Coldplay reached international fame and popularity which only kept growing and growing. More than two decades later, Yellow and the topic of love and devotion still resonate with the crowds.

NEW ORLEANS (BRPROUD) — The New Orleans Saints continue to fill up the hole they dug themselves in with a 35-14 win over the Cleveland Browns Sunday at the Caesars Superdome.
Saints found the endzone on their first possession of the game thanks to Taysom Hill after stopping Cleveland on fourth down at midfield. It’s the first time the Saints scored a touchdown on their opening possession since Week 4.
Explosive plays have been the Achilles’ heel of the New Orleans defense this season. Sunday, the problem continued later in the first quarter when former Saints quarterback Jameis Winston connected with Jerry Jeudy, who turned it into an 89-yard touchdown. Despite the score, the Saints continued to lead 7-6 due to the Browns failing to convert the 2-point attempt.
The Saints opened the second quarter with an explosive play of their own, with quarterback Derek Carr finding receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling for a 71-yard touchdown, extending their lead to 14-6. The touchdown is Valdes-Scantling’s third in two games.
The Browns tied the game at 14 on their first possession of the second half with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Winston to receiver Elijah Moore while adding on a two-point conversion.
Hill continued to have a dominant day for the Saints, rushing for his second touchdown to open the fourth quarter on fourth down to put New Orleans up 21-14.
The Saints extended their lead to 28-14 in the fourth with a touchdown from Carr to tight end Juwan Johnson after starting in excellent field position thanks to a 53-yard punt return by Dante Pettis, who was elevated from the practice squad for the game.
Hill scored a third touchdown near the end of the fourth quarter, bringing the score to 35-14.

Jason Neville Funky Soul Band is New Orleans only Live Mix Band.
Although Jason is the youngest son of 5x Grammy winner Aaron Neville, he holds his own!
Both he and his wife aka 1st Lady of Funk have rocked stages all over the world including some of your favorite festivals.
They’ve rocked 1/2 time shows for the NBA, Private Parties and so much more.
Putting out fresh new sounds with their original music and creating mixes with some of your favorite soulful old school songs combined with New Orleans Heritage music, it’s a win/win!
You can get it all with this band. Doll face Trinity and the rest of the Funky Soul Crew have created a sound that will make your feet move and body groove.
It a must see show, so when you hear the name, you know what to expect.
Cafe Negril is the only place you’ll see them on Frenchmen, but if you follow them you can see where they are playing weekly.
If you get the opportunity to come to a show, we promise that you’ll have no regrets!
They have been nominated as New Orleans “Only Live Mix Band” and one of the top must see shows in New Orleans.

The term Lagniappe comes from cajun French for “a little something extra.” Started in 2010, Lagniappe Brass Band was just an idea that quickly grew into something much more. Through our time, we have had the pleasure of playing around the United States, Canada, and have done several overseas tours in Spain and France.
Verterans of getting funky and bringing that soulful New Orleans brass, we’re done countless festivals and are a huge lover of the music culture in New Orleans.

NATIONAL CARBONATED BEVERAGE WITH CAFFEINE DAY
Unique food holidays, such as National Carbonated Beverage With Caffeine Day, give us opportunities to break out of our everyday norms. On November 19th, explore the variety of carbonated beverages with caffeine.
Some people cannot have caffeine due to medical reasons, and others choose to avoid caffeine as a personal choice. Then there are the millions of people who reach for the caffeine every morning and sometimes all day long. The same applies to carbonated beverages. Today's celebration combines the two of them.
In 1767, Englishman Joseph Priestly suspended a bowl of distilled water above a beer vat at a local brewery in Leeds, England. His experiment led to a method of infusing water with carbon dioxide to make carbonated water. Priestly's invention of carbonated water is the major and defining component of most soft drinks.
Caffeine acts as a central nervous system stimulant, temporarily warding off drowsiness and restoring alertness. Ninety percent of adults in North America consume caffeine daily. Some people notice sleep disruption after drinking beverages containing caffeine. Though, others see no disturbance at all.
Other terms for carbonated beverages include sparkling, bubbly, or effervescent. Almost any beverage can be carbonated, though not every beverage should be carbonated. Sodas are the most common caffeinated, carbonated drinks, but some makers can add some fizz to cold-brewed coffee these days. In addition, certain sparkling waters infuse flavors and add caffeine for that extra boost.

November 19th Celebrated History
1805
The Corps of Discovery led by Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark reaches the Pacific Ocean.
1863
At the request of David Wills, President Abraham Lincoln gives a brief speech at the dedication of a cemetery for soldiers in Gettysburg, VA. The speech is known today as the Gettysburg Address.
1916

1955
The National Review publishes its first issue. The semi-monthly conservative magazine was founded by William F. Buckley Jr.
1969
Apollo 12 astronauts Pete Conrad and Alan Bean become the third and fourth humans to walk on the moon. Though not a secret mission by any means, the record of the trip is forgotten by many. Partially due to timing and partially because most of the film record of the mission was lost when the camera was destroyed. Bean accidentally pointed it toward the sun while exploring the moon. However, there are audio recordings and transcripts of the successful mission.
1975
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest starring Jack Nicholson and Louis Fletcher is released. The Milos Forman-directed film is based on the novel by Ken Kesey and would win an Academy Award for Best Picture.

This is a very special window in St. Alphonsus church. It was made by F.X. Zettler from Germany especially for the Redemptorists. It represents all the people living in the Irish Channel and symbolizes that we all crucify Jesus through sin. Look closely there are caucasians, asians, irish, germans, africans and I assume the figure hidden represents the French.

At that stroke of midnight on November 21, 2024, oenophiles all over France will begin their jubilant celebration in honor of the end of the harvest and the uncorking of the Beaujolais Nouveau. Hundreds of events throughout France will be held with fireworks, music, and, of course, tastings, as “tout le monde” vie to sample the current batch of Beaujolais Nouveau - light, fruit-driven wines made with barely fermented Gamay grapes that are best consumed as soon as possible - literally. But, never fear, there are 3 different quality levels of Beaujolais above Nouveau and these are the ones we get excited about!
The entry-level wines that are simply labeled Beaujolais, are made from grapes grown throughout the Beaujolais region, mainly in the south. These also tend to be on the fruit-forward side and are meant to be enjoyed in the first year or two after the vintage. Beaujolais-Villages wines are based on Gamay grapes that were grown in the northern part of the Beaujolais region, specifically 38 permitted villages. And Cru Beaujolais are grown in any of ten specific northern locales whose typically granitic soils (though they are far from uniform in composition and character) can produce the most age-worthy and complex of all red wines from Beaujolais. So, needless to say, the least expensive wines generally come from the south, and the more expensive and age-worthy wines come from the north. And if this was all you learned about Beaujolais, you’d know enough to dive in and start learning by tasting - but as always goes with wine, a lot of the fun is in the details.
We are here to help with those details as we taste different wines from the 3 categories and talk about the terroir that makes them special. What is Beaujolais Blanc? What is the difference between a village-level wine and a cru? What's the stylistic difference between one Cru and another?? David Sobiesk will present as we learn about one of our favorite regions and pick out some of the best wines ever to pair with your holiday meals! The event is sold out but you can join our waitlist here, Gamay
Learn a little, drink a little, and have some fun with us!

Starts at The Contemporary Arts Center!
6-7pm Intro to Swing
For total beginners to swing dancing or dancing of any kind. Also for those looking to refresh their basics and learn some ragtime dances. We use these pre-swing era dances to teach beginners how to step on rhythm, step on rhythm while connected to another person, how to connect in order to lead or follow, you'll learn to syncopate your footwork, and then we'll slowly start to let go of one hand and create the beginnings of what will eventually be a bad-ass swing out.
7:30-8:30 Lindy Hop Vocab - Intermediate Level
This class is gonna give you some must know moves, some technique, some philosophy, and of course, we'll continue to clarify and polish up your swing outs.

Comedy House New Orleans
The most unique comedy show in New Orleans is The Open Mic From Hell, hosted by Chris Trew (as seen on MTV, Comedy Central, America's Got Talent)
CHNO ( Comedy house New Orleans)
609-610 Fulton St
New Orleans, LA 70130
Mon,November 25
8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
(Entry at 7:30 pm)
The Open Mic From Hell is the most unique night of comedy in New Orleans.
Everything about the show is chaotic and unpredictable in the most beautifully hilarious way.
The list of performers? A total mystery.
The jokes they’ll tell? Nobody knows, not even them.
How does it work? Comedians sign-up on the list an hour before showtime. At least 13 names get pulled out of the bucket.
When a name gets pulled they come on stage and make a choice - do they do an entirely new set based on words from the audience, or a special challenge set.
Past challenges have had comics doing their set outside on the street, with noise canceling headphones on, and with a designated heckler in the crowd. We are always adding new, improved, and ridiculous challenges to the show.

Super Bowl LIX may happen more than three weeks before Fat Tuesday, but the host committee wants to make sure the city -- and the throngs of visitors in town for the NFL's championship game -- get the carnival experience.
The day before the game, February 8, there will be a Mardi Gras-style parade complete with elaborate floats, marching bands, and throws.
Our partners at NOLA.com report details of the parade are still being finalized, but float-builder Barry Kern says it will likely be a 20-float parade made up of signature floats from various krewes.
And because it is not an official carnival parade, corporate sponsors will also be a part of it.
Todd Graves, founder of Baton Rouge-based Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers, will serve as grand marshal.
Rather than follow one of the traditional Mardi Gras routes, the Super Bowl parade will line up on Elysian Fields in the Marigny, parade up Decatur Street along the French Quarter, then take Tchoupitoulas St. to Poydras, turn up to St. Charles Ave., then proceed along St. Charles to St. Joseph St. just before reaching Harmony Circle.

Just two days after Super Bowl LIX, Jefferson Parish will celebrate its 200th birthday on Feb. 11. Bicentennial festivities kicked off at the State of Jefferson address Tuesday with the unveiling of the official poster, depicting a pelican before the Mississippi River in vivid pink and blue hues. It is illustrated by Louisiana artist Becky Fos, known for designing the 2023 state "I Voted" sticker, modeled after the Louisiana state flag.
A limited supply of signed and numbered posters can be purchased for $150, with proceeds going toward the Jefferson Community Foundation.
Courtesy of Jefferson Parish
The parish will celebrate the bicentennial on Feb. 11 with a Light the Night event, followed by a community-wide king cake party at Lakeside Mall on Feb. 15.
The following month, a bicentennial-themed Senior Expo will take place at the Alario Center on March 20, and a "Park to Park" 10K run will happen March 22 at Lafreniere Park.
Festivities for the parish's 200th birthday will come to a close June 14 with the Bicentennial Ball at Lakeside Mall, hosted by the Jefferson Community Foundation. Lee Sheng said she wanted parish events to involve the entire community and asked residents and local business owners to get involved.
"I want our bicentennial to feel like everybody's a part of it," Lee Sheng said in her address.
