Dear DSHA Community,

Doesn’t it seem like just yesterday that the school year began? Reflecting on the year, there is much to be grateful for; many blessings God has bestowed upon our community. We celebrate these throughout the year in prayer, our recognition assemblies, athletic banquets, etc.

The end of the school year comes with many celebrations, too. These include the groundbreaking ceremony for our new athletic fields, College Decision Day, the Parent Fine Arts Association awards night, the honors assembly, fourth quarter recognition assembly, end of year assembly, our final all-school liturgy, Baccalaureate Mass, graduation, and our first Salvatorian Family House System winner coffee truck.

While these are all appropriate celebrations, we sometimes overlook individual growth worth celebrating. Perhaps as parents, we can take a few moments to reflect upon the ways in which our daughters have grown closer to the people God intends them to be and celebrate with them.

I want to wish everyone a safe and relaxing summer.

God bless,

Dan Quesnell

DSHA Principal

FROM THE ACADEMIC DEAN

Last week I attended an open house for prospective parents. Before the event, I was struck by a moment in the fitness center that is an extended metaphor for all the hard work and dedication each of your daughters brings to our DSHA community:

I try to work out after school. Yesterday, the rugby team was in the fitness center doing their lifting workout. Now, I love a good workout, but I have to admit that I was intimidated by the amount of weight they were lifting. They were “lifting to failure” or until their muscles fatigued – and they were thrilled.

As I walked on the treadmill at what I would generously call a middle-aged pace, I found myself thinking about tonight and reflecting on what I was witnessing.

I wondered: would girls feel this same freedom—to push themselves, sweat, struggle, fail, and try again—in front of their male counterparts?

Some absolutely would. But I’m not sure 100% of girls would feel comfortable curling 30+ pounds to fatigue, breathing heavily, and doing it all unapologetically.

And I thought: this is the perfect metaphor for DSHA.

This is what happens here academically.

Girls take intellectual risks.

They raise their hands.

They ask hard questions.

They lead discussions.

They fail, recover, and grow.

They challenge themselves without apology.

They lift to failure—and in doing so, they become stronger.

That is the gift of an all-girls education.

That is the gift of DSHA.

And that is why I am so grateful to be working here.

Take care,

Erin Housiaux

Academic Dean

AP TESTING

AP Testing Continues This Week | DSHA has been recognized for the 2025 Advanced Placement School Platinum Honor Roll for developing an AP program that delivers results, broadens access, and creates a college-going culture that gives students the opportunities to earn college credit and to maximize their college outcomes. Research shows that students who take AP courses and exams are more likely to attend college and graduate on time. Even those who do not earn college credit benefit from the advanced coursework that provides early exposure to college-level work and college-going school culture.

These exams will be using the Bluebook digital testing application. AP Science exams will be hybrid, with both digital and writing components. The AP Spanish test will not be digital as it includes written and oral components. DSHA’s Student Services will provide all students with Chromebooks to administer AP exams; no personal computers allowed.

The AP schedule for the remainder of 2026 is:

  • AP Calculus AB: Monday, May 11, 8 a.m.
  • AP Calculus BC: Monday, May 11, 8 a.m.
  • AP Precalculus: Tuesday, May 12, 8 a.m.
  • AP English Language & Composition: Wednesday, May 13, 8 a.m.
  • AP Physics C: Mechanics: Wednesday, May 13, noon
  • AP Spanish Language & Culture: Thursday, May 14, 8 a.m.
  • AP Environmental Science: Friday, May 15, 8 a.m.

CAMPUS MINISTRY

NEW! Retreat Save the Dates | Grade-level retreats encourage students to grow in their personal faith journey through a series of faith-enriching opportunities, conversations, and prayer experiences. Students are provided opportunities to connect with one another and develop friendships. By emphasizing small-group experiences, we create spaces where girls feel valued and comfortable as they grow into the people God created them to be. Girls learn from each other and from older students as small group leaders. Retreats are mandatory every year (except for the Optional Junior Retreat) and will take place on the following dates:

  • Freshman Retreat | October 18-19 at DSHA | Mark 6:50-52
  • Sophomore Retreat Option #1 | October 11-12
  • Sophomore Retreat Option #2 | October 13-14 at St. Iakovos Retreat Center | Isaiah 43:1-5
  • Optional Junior Retreat | January 10-11 at St. Iakovos Retreat Center | Luke 10:41-42
  • Senior Retreat Option #1 | January 10-11 at Camp Whitcomb Mason | Luke 24:13-32
  • Senior Retreat Option #2 | January 14-15 at Camp Whitcomb Mason | Luke 24:13-32

The sophomore and senior retreat sign-ups will go out in late September. Athletes are asked to sign up for certain retreat dates. Please watch the Parent eNews for more information closer to the dates.

NEW! Summer Service | Summer is a wonderful time to serve in the community. Some regular opportunities will be on x2vol all summer but you are encouraged to reach out to set up service on your own. This is a great time to establish a regular service site. There is information on how to become a volunteer at a hospital on the ‘Find Opportunities’ page on x2vol.

Here is the summer service policy:

  • Summer service hours need to fit the regular categories: Salvatorian, Church, or DSHA.
  • Half of your academic year requirement hours can come from summer hours. That means, sophomores can apply 7.5 hours, and juniors may apply 10 hours.
  • All summer service hours apply towards the Salvatorian Sisters Service Award.
  • Summer service should be logged on x2VOL as Summer Service.
  • DSHA summer leadership does NOT count for service. It is considered a leadership opportunity
  • One-time summer service events, like mission trips, Vacation Bible School, etc., are limited to 20 service hours on x2VOL.

NEW! Salvatorian Sisters Service Award | The Salvatorian Sisters’ Service Award honors Seniors who live out the Salvatorian mission by going above and beyond in their commitment to service. Presented by the Sisters of the Divine Savior, this award recognizes graduating seniors whose dedication to loving service exceeds the graduation requirement and reflects a lifelong commitment to compassion and justice.

To be eligible, students must:

  • Complete 120+ hours of service from the first day of freshman year through the first day of senior year. All service hours, including parish, place of worship, DSHA, summer service, and mission trips, can be applied to this cumulative goal and must be submitted, verified, and approved on x2VOL.
  • Complete 20+ hours of ongoing service during senior year between the first day of school and the last day of the fall semester.
  • At least 10 of these hours must be at one site.

Seniors who meet the eligibility requirements above will be invited to have a parent nominate them for the award and do a personal interview with a Sister of the Divine Savior in April 2027. The award is given at Honors Night in May.

Encourage your daughter to keep serving her community with love this summer and build up hours toward the SSSA.

Contact Director of Campus Ministry Stephanie Monson with any questions.

COLLEGE COUNSELING

NEW! Seniors Dual Enrollment Credit Transcripts | If your daughter is taking or has taken a college credit in high school via dual enrollment, she will need to send a college transcript to the college/university she plans to attend. If she has taken dual enrollment classes from several colleges, she will need to send a transcript from each dual enrollment college to the college they will be attending in the fall.

Here are the steps she should follow to send official college transcripts to another college or university:

  • Hold off on your daughter sending anything until the class is complete and grades are finalized.
  • Visit the website of the college where she took the Dual Enrollment classes
  • Type in ‘Transcript’ or ‘Registrar’ in the school search engine.
  • There should be a link to order official transcripts; most colleges use Parchment.

If your daughter is having trouble, please contact Director of College Advising Kristin Shea for assistance.

NEW! Senior Final Transcripts | Class of 2026 final transcripts will automatically be sent to the ONE college students have confirmed they will be attending in the fall by mid-June. Students communicated their choice on DSHA Decision Day on May 1.

If a college decision has changed, students MUST notify Director of College Counseling Kristin Shea via email by Wednesday, June 3; after that, contact Student Services Administrative Assistant Katie Hoffmann, DSHA '02.

NEW! Class of 2027 Summer Information | Juniors should be working on their college search, essay(s), and completing the general section to the common application. Summer is a great time to visit colleges, volunteer, or job shadow. Here are some resources:

NEW! Naviance Power School Class Action Settlement | DSHA is aware that some families may have received legal notice regarding a class action settlement involving the Naviance platform, which is owned by PowerSchool. Naviance is a college and career readiness tool that is used by DSHA and many schools throughout the country to support students with postsecondary planning and college admissions.

  • Is this legitimate? Yes, these messages are part of a court-approved notification process that was sent on behalf of a third-party settlement administrator. Families and students may receive them via email or mail.
  • Who may be affected? Based on our records, Naviance was used by DSHA students for multiple years, 2021-present, by all students enrolled during that time.
  • What is this about? The settlement relates to legal claims involving the use of third-party analytics or tracing technologies within the Naviance platform. According to PowerSchool:

1.   This is not a data breach

2.   This does not mean student data was hacked

3.   There has been no court determination or wrongdoing

The case was settled to avoid the time and expense of ongoing litigation.

  • What information was involved? School districts typically provide basic student information to allow access to Naviance. Additional information is often entered by students as part of their college and career planning activities.

What should families do? If you receive a notice, please review it carefully, as it outlines any potential eligibility, deadlines, or options available to you. For more information, visit the official settlement website or call 822-447-8852.

DSHA remains committed to protecting student information and working with our partners to support strong data privacy practices and transparency.

NEW! Revolution Prep, Academic Support: Our Revolution Prep friends have you covered for summer test and math prep. Students can take full-length ACT, SAT, and PSAT practice exams for free. One-week bootcamps for Alebrea, Algebra 2, and Precalculus are also available.
