ON THE LEVEL
If you have any tools, you may have a level. You know the tool, the one with the little window with a tube with a bubble in it. It determines whether something is straight, or on “the level.” A good carpenter will use this tool to make sure that whatever he builds, whether it is a chair, a table, or a house that it is level. The level determines if something will stand straight. It is an exact measurement.
I had a friend tell me recently that she doesn’t believe everything in the bible is true. She thinks there are so many versions that none of them are accurate. She asked me how I could know if it was true or not. Now, that is a good question. One that you may have asked yourself.
The bible was originally written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Koine Greek. Unlike books that men write, we get a clue about how the bible was written and by who. Was it written by man with his own thoughts?
2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
The word inspiration is only found once in the entire bible. It means God breathed. In other words, the words are like Genesis 2:7 where God breathed into the clay he had formed and it came alive with Adam. God breathed on men, giving them his words of life and they wrote them down. Those words also became flesh resulting in the body of Jesus. [John 1:14]
Scripture is inspired [God breathed] by God, and then men wrote what God said to them. Nothing more and nothing less. It is totally “on the level” – not one minute part of an inch off. We can count on it to always be on the level. Yes, there are some bible translations that do not represent what God said, but you cannot deny God and his word when you study the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Koine Greek. They are on the level.
Manuscripts that are thousands of years old were found in caves in Israel, and they contained the scriptures. They were written in Hebrew and Aramaic and are the same as the Hebrew of today. Psalms 119 mentions the word “word” many times. Verse 89 says, “…For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.” Again, in Psalm 138:2 it says, “…thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.” God has preserved his “Word.”
You can count on the Word of God to be on the level. Like a level, it never changes from being true. It is a light unto your path. [Psalm 119:105]
