Fire Week at Merrill Elementary!
This week, Raynham Fire Department visited Merrill Elementary School for Fire Prevention Week! Firemen spoke to the children about emergency preparedness, how to be safe around fires, and exactly what it means to be a firefighter. The assembly was a great lesson for the students, and the kids had a blast learning about fire safety.
In the days following the presentation, the Merrill Elementary Early Childhood Parents Organization (ECPO) and the Laliberte Parents Organization (LPO) gave back to the first responders of Raynham to show their appreciation. Together, they provided RFD and RPD with amazing homemade entrees, desserts, snack boxes, and favors as a thank you. This act of kindness reflects not only the gratitude of the parents of ECPO and LPO, but the greater impact of Raynham's first responders. Thank you, everyone, for supporting our kids and keeping Raynham safe!

Climate Can Do:
3 Tips for a Sustainable Halloween
With spooky season underway, it is important to remember how our choices impact the environment around us. According to Duke University, a 2019 study found that discarded Halloween costumes alone generated 2,000 tons of plastic waste each year. Luckily there are many quick and easy tricks to help you cut down your eco-footprint.
Recycle Costumes and Decor
When it comes to Halloween, some things never go out of style. From spiders to skeletons to witch cauldrons -- keep your "old" decor to use again next year and save time, money, and the planet!
You might consider shopping at thrift and consignment shops or try something new and DIY your own costume! The cape from one year's vampire costume might be the finishing touch for next year's superhero. A pillow case can be easily decorated at home and makes a great trick-or-treat bag. Old stockings with runs and pulls can be transformed into spider-webbing. And cardboard boxes can be cut and painted to look like tombstones in your front yard display!
Maximize Pumpkin Usage
When pumpkins are tossed in the trash and begin to breakdown, they create methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. To help prevent this, try to use every part of your pumpkin this Halloween!
Pumpkin seeds, flesh, and rind can be used in a ton of delicious recipes such as pumpkin bread, pudding, pie, and more. For inspiration, you can look online or visit Delish.
Once the season's over, compost your pumpkin, mixing it oxygen while it breaks down decreases methane emissions and improves your garden's nutrient-rich soil.
Shop Sustainably
Shopping locally is also an easy way to limit waste. Support local farmers this season and buy locally-grown pumpkins; and shop local or fair trade chocolatiers.

Raynham PD & The Pink Patch Project
The Raynham Police are pleased to once again participate in the national Pink Patch Project initiative this October. The Pink Patch Project is a national collaborative public awareness campaign with over 756 agencies nationwide participating. The goal is to increase education about the importance of early detection and prevention in the fight against breast cancer while supporting research to combat the disease.
The Raynham Police Department is partnered with The Pink Patch Project and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to raise awareness. The department is selling a pink version of our department's shoulder patch to support this initiative. Officers will also be wearing a pink patch and insignia to help increase public awareness to help stomp out cancer.

"Do not dwell in the past,
do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment." ~ Buddha
"I have great respect for the past. If you don't know where you've come from, you don't know where you're going. I have respect for the past, but I'm a person of the moment. I'm here, and I do my best to be completely centered at the place I'm at, then I go forward to the next place."
~ Maya Angelou
You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." ~ Johnny Cash
| |
We need to deal with our past pain to let go of it; otherwise the pain rears its ugly head one way or another; showing up in the worst places... in anxiety attacks and quick judgements.
Be at peace. Face it; mourn it; forgive.
You may never understand, but don't let the story someone else wrote be yours.
Be the hero of your own story. ~ Jacquie
