All of Laconia is celebrating Season 16 of GOT LUNCH! Laconia! If you don’t know why we’re celebrating, go to Got Lunch! Laconia to learn more. Here is a blurb from their website:
“Every Monday morning throughout the summer volunteers pack bags with enough lunch food for the week then deliver those bags to students' homes. GOT LUNCH! Laconia partners with the Lakes Region Agricultural Collaborative to provide fresh vegetables at the lowest prices, and VISTA Foods supports the mission of GOT LUNCH! Laconia through our partnership where dairy vouchers for milk, cheese, and/or eggs and fruit vouchers for fresh fruit can be redeemed at their store. Registration for the food program will begins mid-May each year.”
Our Church has been a partner, supporter, and host of GOT LUNCH! Laconia since the beginning. The organization was the brainchild of our Minister, Paula Gile, and a half dozen other Church members.
Because of its great success, it quickly became an independent community organization with volunteers from other towns and churches, many teachers and staff from Laconia schools, and anyone else who’s willing to share a little time to make the program work. If you’d like to volunteer or donate, please go to the website at Got Lunch! Laconia and fill out the paperwork to sign up!
GOT LUNCH! Laconia rents space from the Church to use to prepare food bags for deliveries, as storage areas for the supplies and the thousands of cans, boxes, and bags of food needed for the summer. Remember to respect these spaces and items that belong to GOT LUNCH! Laconia – and not to the Congregational Church of Laconia. Please ask Church members/ GOT LUNCH! Laconia Board members Diane Tinkham or Shawn Intorcio for the go-ahead to use any of the items that belong to GOT LUNCH! Laconia. Most importantly, please don’t move or take any of the food that we have counted and organized to deliver to the 532 Children/youth who are signed up to receive food on Mondays throughout the summer.
Stop by on Monday on mornings from 8:00 – 10:00 and see the synchronization of the 70+ volunteers as they work together to get the food bags packed and delivered to the families – it’s incredible!
