Just a Suggestion
I recently read that the reason we pray is simply that we cannot help praying. One of the most surprising facts about humanity is that no tribe has been found whose people did not pray to one or more gods.
Let’s face it, in times when life is too much to bear, when we feel we’re at the breaking point, when our hearts are broken, and our minds are troubled – then we pray. Yet, as Billy Graham stated, “True prayer is a way of life, not just for use in cases of emergency.”
May I make a suggestion? Let prayer become such a habit, such a way of life, that even when the world isn’t crashing in, we just naturally talk with our Father each and every day.
However, we often approach God as though we’re sitting on Santa’s lap with our long wish list.
To avoid this in my life, I’ve learned to use the acronym: A.C.T. S.
“A” stands for Adoration.
“Oh come, let us adore Him” isn’t just for Christmas morning. Begin by praising God for His amazing character -- His majesty, power, and perfect wisdom.
I particularly appreciate His immutability, which tells me He never changes. This gives me peace because I never have to wonder about His mood or whether He has changed His commands.
“C” stands for Confession.
This is when we acknowledge our sins and our mistakes. We tell God that we are truly sorry and ask Him for the strength to repent from them.
“T” stands for Thanksgiving.
There’s so much to be thankful for. First and foremost is our Savior, Jesus Christ. Then, there are all the joys, wonders, and great moments of life that deserve our gratitude.
When we think of what life would be like without the special people and everyday blessings which are part of life, then an entire day would not be long enough to give thanks for them all.
Lately I’ve been thanking God the “nots” in my life. I name three things that I do not have for which I am grateful to God. For instance, today I thank Him that I do not have kidney disease, or a toothache, or a flat tire.
Trust me, your perspective on the day changes as you fill your thoughts with gratitude.
“S” stands for Supplication.
This is when we bring our needs before God. Begin by praying for others and end with your own requests.
Finally, close your prayer in Jesus’ Name and prepare to have a blessed day!
Just a suggestion!
