1971 PORSCHE 911T

LONG-HOOD OUTLAW BACKDATE

FORMER DICK BARBOUR CAR

This striking 1971 Porsche 911T Coupe is an exceptional long-hood outlaw backdate that seamlessly bridges classic air-cooled heritage with modern bespoke craftsmanship. Originally commissioned for a full custom restoration in 2014, the car was refinished in its sought-after factory color of Albert Blue—a rich, deep hue complemented by custom steel rear fender flares, an RS-style front bumper, color-matched rear bumperettes, and yellow Porsche script side striping. The cabin delivers a bold, head-turning contrast, featuring custom Signal Orange Italian leather upholstery covering hardback GTS Classics bucket seats, RS-style door panels, and the dashboard trim strip. Black-painted roll bar hardware, 4-point racing harnesses, charcoal carpeting, a three-spoke MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, VDO gauges, and dashboard rally timers accentuate its purposeful, motorsport-inspired cockpit.

Adding to its rich history, this 911 was previously offered by Dick Barbour Performance in Oakwood, Georgia. The Dick Barbour name carries immense weight in Porsche racing lore, anchored by Barbour’s legendary connection to actor and racer Paul Newman. The duo teamed up at the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans in a Dick Barbour Racing Porsche 935, co-driving to a celebrated first-in-class victory and a second-place overall finish in one of the most famous endurance racing efforts in history.

Underneath the striking aesthetics lies a thoroughly sorted mechanical setup built to perform. Power comes from a replacement 2.2-liter air-cooled flat-six featuring JE high-compression pistons, 911E camshafts, an MSD ignition system, and oil-fed Carrera chain tensioners. Paired with a 5-speed Type 901 manual transaxle, the engine benefited from a comprehensive $16k+ rebuild in 2017, making it remarkably responsive, eager to rev, and a true joy on twisty roads. The ride height sits aggressively over an upgraded Bilstein suspension, while stance and contact are handled by polished 15-inch Fuchs/RSR-style wheels wrapped in sticky performance tires. Accompanied by service records, a toolkit, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this unique early 911 offers an undeniable presence, air-cooled performance, and a direct tie to American Porsche racing heritage.
