Finishing Strong
I have had a great first week at Trident Academy, so I want to start out by saying a big “THANK YOU” to the entire faculty and staff, the students, the parents, and even the grandparents for making me feel so welcome. I am only getting started here, but the start is just the start. What I'm most interested in is the journey and THE FINISH!
As we enter the final stretch of the school year, it can be tempting—for students and adults alike—to begin looking ahead to summer. Yet these last weeks offer some of the most meaningful opportunities for growth. “Finishing strong” is not just about completing assignments or preparing for final projects; it’s about reinforcing habits of perseverance, responsibility, and pride in one’s work. For students with learning differences, these moments are especially important, as they provide a chance to apply strategies, build confidence, and recognize just how far they have come.
At Trident Academy, we see every day how progress is made through consistent effort over time. The end of the year is when those small, steady gains begin to come together. Whether it’s a student advocating more independently, tackling a challenging project, or simply staying organized and focused, these accomplishments matter. They are the building blocks of long-term success, far beyond any single grade or report card.
Families play a vital role in helping students maintain momentum during this period. Encouragement, structure, and clear expectations at home can make a significant difference. Simple actions—like maintaining routines, celebrating effort, and keeping an eye on upcoming deadlines—help reinforce the message that these final weeks count. When students see that school and home are aligned in this belief, they are more likely to stay engaged and motivated.
Finishing strong is ultimately about more than academics; it’s about character. It teaches students that their effort matters until the very end, that challenges are worth meeting head-on, and that growth does not have a cutoff date. As we move toward the close of the year, let’s continue to support our students in giving their best, right through the final day. The habits they build now will carry forward into next year—and well beyond.
Have a great weekend, and in these final weeks of the school year, please take care of yourselves, take care of each other, and take care of your school.
Have a great weekend,
Hacker Burr Interim Head of School
