MAYOR'S UPDATE
From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin
I hope you and your neighbors have fared well through the recent storm that swept through Westchester and the Hudson Valley. If you continue to have problems caused by the storm or floods, please contact the Office of the Village Manager, and they will help to direct you to any services that may be available. These storms should remind us to be extra vigilant in maintaining strong wetlands legislation and flood mitigation policies as development increases across our county, especially in those communities that sit on the Hudson River and its tributaries.
One of the major initiatives I promised the community at the beginning of my current term is to fix and enhance the five-way intersection in the heart of our Village. I am happy to report that this project is running on time and on budget, with an expected completion this fall. It is already enhancing safety solutions for our pedestrians with ease of use and safety for people with disabilities via the ADA improvements. Our final step will be adding more aesthetics and upgrading the signal lights.   Please feel free to contact me with any questions on this project. I am grateful to my colleagues on the Board, DPW, and the Village Management team for all their hard work and dedication.
Please note that there are simply too many events held every week to list in my message during the summer months. Please refer to the Village's Weekly Web Blast for more information regarding events and activities in Ossining and beyond. In our continuing efforts for increased open dialogue and community engagement, some members of the Village Board will be at the Farmer's Market to meet with the public. We will be on hand to meet community members to discuss our projects in the pipeline and listen to any other concerns you might have. Enjoy your time at the Farmer’s Market and share your thoughts with us on Saturday, July 15, from 9 am to 12 pm.
Spring on Main Pt. 2- Integrating History with the Future
July 13, 2023 @ 6:00 pm

We will continue with our presentation and community engagement regarding the rebuilding of our retail and commercial space as well as housing designs for the properties on Spring and Main in the heart of our downtown as part of our DRI projects. This session will focus on architectural design, traffic flow, retail/commercial space integration with the existing downtown historic and commercial district, and sustainability features. The selected developers are Wilder Balter and St. Katherine Group Development.
Did you know that Police Departments across the state vary? There are local municipal police, county police, and state police departments. These all report to different government bodies. Please take note that the NYS Police (Troopers) has a long and proud history of serving the citizens of New York since 1917. Their mission, to serve, protect and defend the people of New York while preserving the rights and dignity of all, has remained constant from their inception and is still their goal today. The work of a New York State Trooper encompasses everything from traditional patrol duties to highly specialized investigations. The New York State Police is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to having a diverse workforce representing our communities. The upcoming New York State Trooper Entrance Examination application is now open. You can apply from now through October 1, 2023. These are wonderful careers for many in our community, and I encourage you to seek more information if serving the public is of interest to you. This week's Work Session will begin with a Special Meeting at 6 pm. We will be swearing in several new Ossining Police Officers, as well as the members of the new Placemaking Committee.
The Work Session will include the following:

  • The property at 325 North Highland Avenue will be bringing forth a request for a zoning text amendment.
  • For various cybersecurity reasons, Staff recommends that the Village move from a .org domain to a .gov. It's a relatively complicated data mapping project which, while not mandatory, needs the BOT's attention.
  • Labor Counsel has informed us that certain updates to the Village's Sexual Harassment Policy are required to remain in compliance with New York State's regulations.
