THIS WEEK IN HOUSTON

June 25–29, 2025

From bold ceramics and dreamlike photography to vinyl vibes and visionary happenings, Houston’s art scene is in full creative swing this week.

Explore memory, place, and identity at exhibitions across the city — from Asia Society Texas Center to Hooks-Epstein Galleries — and join conversations at the intersection of literature and lived experience with Nuestra Palabra at Finca Tres Robles Urban Farm.

Catch the return of The Happening XXIX at The Orange Show Center for Visionary Art, unwind at Pride Happy Hour with Moody Center for the Arts, and dive into thoughtful openings and artist talks all weekend long.

Scroll down for this week's highlights and visit my website for even MORE events!

P.S. On Monday, Councilmember Joaquín Martínez (District I) generously hosted Cheech Marin for a special gathering at J-Bar-M Smokehouse & Barbecue. From Magnolia Park Arts & Community to MECA, ALMAAHH to Houston Arts Alliance, the conversation was rich with ideas and a shared mission: to uplift Latino and Chicano voices in Houston through the arts. Step into the dazzling world of Tamara de Lempicka, the trailblazing Art Deco artist who captivated Paris, Milan, Berlin, and New York in the 1920s. Directed by Julie Rubio, this powerful 2024 documentary traces Lempicka’s remarkable life—her bold creative vision, forbidden love affairs, hidden Jewish heritage, and flight from persecution. A must-see portrait of art, identity, and resilience!
