Traffic Shift Scheduled for Westbound Interstate 80 in Yolo County

Shift will realign WB lanes from near the WB 50/80 junction

to 1.4 miles west of the Chiles Road Interchange

YOLO COUNTY – Caltrans is notifying motorists that a new traffic shift will be in effect at 9 p.m. Thursday on westbound Interstate 80 (I-80) in Yolo County as part of the ongoing $280 million I-80 and U.S. Highway 50 (US 50) Pavement Rehabilitation Project.

The new shift will start just after the westbound US 50/I-80 junction and realign westbound lanes through the Yolo Causeway and Chiles Road locations, before merging into the existing lanes of westbound I-80 1.4 miles west of the Chiles Road interchange. 

The shift is taking place to allow room for construction crews to work on the new concrete median barrier. The new striping configuration will maintain 3 through lanes from the US 50/I-80 junction onto the causeway.

This project includes $47 million from Senate Bill (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. SB 1 provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually, shared equally between state and local agencies.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
