סופרת החודש שלנו היא… עדי גולן!י

״זה היה יום רגיל

הנחל זרם בכיוון הרגיל, בדיוק כמו שנחל צריך לזרום.י

הרוח נשבה כמו שרוח צריכה,י

הקטנים היו קטנים,י

הגדולים היו גדולים,י

וביחד הם היו

ממש בדיוק״.י

עדי גולן גרה בטבעון ואמא לעמית, שחר ורוני. עובדת כקלינאית תקשורת. היא כותבת מאז ומתמיד בעיקר שירה וסיפורים קצרים ותמיד אהבה ספרות ילדים טובה. הכתיבה לילדים היא אהבה חדשה עבורה, שנולדה בשנים האחרונות. ״יש תנין בקצה הנחל הזה״ הוא ספר הילדים הראשון שלה

והוא מוקדש לכל האחים והאחיות שרבים ורבים ואז רבים עוד קצת 😊 (ממש כמו שני הבנים שלה).י

מחשבה לכותבים:י

בשבילי למצוא רעיון לסיפור זה קצת כמו ללכת על חוף הים ולחפש צדפים. יש את אלו הרגילים אבל מידי פעם ממש שם בניהם, ינצנץ איזה נצנוץ או דווקא שבר או גוש זפת. משהו כזה מיוחד שיש לעצור ולהתבונן בו היטב היטב לפני שממשיכים ללכת.י

ותמיד קריאה של ספרי ילדים ובעיקר אלו המשובחים ביותר, שמקפיצים את הלב, מובילים אותי למציאת עוד מציאות מיוחדות במסע הזה.י

כמובן כמובן שקבוצת המשוב שלי עוזרת לי מאוד בהתמדה בעיסוק הזה ובדיוק הכתיבה.י

Our Author of the Month is… Adi Golan!

“It was an ordinary day.

Adi lives in Tivon, in Israel, and is the mother of Amit, Shachar, and Roni. She works professionally as a speech-language pathologist. She has been writing for as long as she can remember, mainly poetry and short stories, and has always loved children’s literature. Story-writing for children is a new love of hers, born in recent years. There’s a Crocodile at the End of This River is her first picture book.

It is dedicated to all the brothers and sisters who fight and fight and then fight some more😊 (just like her two boys).

A thought for writers:

For me, finding a story idea is like walking along the beach looking for seashells. There are the ordinary ones, but every now and then, right there among them, something will catch the light - a glimmer, or perhaps a broken fragment. Something unusual that makes you stop and look closely before you continue on your way. Reading children’s books, especially the very best ones, the ones that make my heart leap, always leads me to discover more unexpected treasures along this journey. And of course, my critique group helps me tremendously in staying committed to my writing and in refining it

Tips on Illustrator Portfolio Curation with Optional Portfolio Review

Join us as Tracy Shaw, art director at Little, Brown Books for Young Readers (LBYR), shares advice on best practices for organizing/curating your portfolio. Apply learned techniques to your portfolio, and assess the effectiveness of those changes by signing up for an optional 15-minute virtual portfolio review. Portfolio reviews participants are invited to a Virtual Happy Hour to debrief with other attendees and build community. The webinar will be on Sunday, November 8, 2026, at 1pm CST. Portfolio Reviews will be on Sunday, December 13, starting at 1pm CST.

סגנון האיור הוא מה שמזוהה עם המאייר או המאיירת, אבל איך מוצאים את הסגנון האישי שלכם? איך יודעים אם הסגנון שלכם הוא כזה שהוצאות לאור ירצו לעבוד איתו? ומה אם יש לכם כמה סגנונות שונים? איך מאחדים ומארגנים אותם לכדי תיק עבודות שאפשר לשווק באופן מקצועי? בסדנה זו, כריסטי מגיל, סוכנת ספרותית בסוכנות The CAT Agency, תעזור למאיירים שמתלבטים בשאלות הללו להגיע לבהירות ולמיקוד, באמצעות מפגש משוב חי על עבודות איור שיוגשו מראש. מאיירים המעוניינים לחדד ולפתח את סגנון האיור שלהם יתבקשו ליצור שלושה איורים של אותה סצנה או אותו נושא, בשלושה סגנונות שונים ו/או בטכניקות שונות. המשתתפים יוכלו להתבסס על הנחיות שיינתנו מראש בנוגע לנושא, לפעולה המתוארת באיור ולהצעות לטכניקות ולסגנונות, או לבחור בעצמם את הנושא ואת אופן הביצוע. האפשרות להגיש איורים לקבלת משוב מיועדת לחברי SCBWI בעלי חברות פרימיום בלבד, ומוגבלת ל־20 משתתפים, על בסיס כל הקודם זוכה. עם זאת, כולם מוזמנים להירשם לסדנה המקוונת, גם ללא הגשת עבודות, כדי ללמוד אילו סגנונות וגישות לאיור עובדים היטב בשוק ההוצאה לאור כיום, ואילו עשויים שלא להתאים לציפיותיהם של מנהלים אמנותיים.י

Illustration Style Lab with Christie Megill

Style is what an illustrator is recognized by, but how do you find yours? How do you know if your style is something publishers want to use? What if you have multiple styles? How do you wrangle them into a marketable portfolio? In this workshop, Christie Megill, literary agent with The CAT Agency, will lead bewildered illustrators to clarity through a live feedback session on submitted artwork. Illustrators seeking to hone their illustration style will be asked to create three illustrations of the same scene/subject using three different styles and/or media, based on provided subject/action prompts and technique/style suggestions; or they may choose their own. The illustration-submission option is for Premium SCBWI Members only, and limited to 20 entries on a first-come, first-served basis. However, everyone is invited to register for the virtual Illustration Style Lab to learn what works and what may not fly with art directors in today's market.

Congratulations to SCBWI member Sarah Sassoon on the publication of her new Hebrew picture book, יש עוד בתזמורת (There’s an Oud in the Orchestra), illustrated by Yael Albert and published by Keter.

Inspired by the legendary Al-Kuwaiti brothers, whose music helped shape modern Iraqi music, the book celebrates the rich musical heritage of Iraqi Jews and the power of music to connect generations and cultures.

Congratulations to illustrator Libi Axelrod

on the publication of Make Room, written by Nava Macmel-Atir and published by Yedioth Books. The story follows a group of strangers who happen to share a bench overlooking the Sea of Galilee and discover that some things can only be achieved by working together. Libi combines hand-drawn lines, watercolor, and digital techniques to create charming, richly textured illustrations.
