🎄 Bring Joy to the Table This Season! 🎄

In the season of giving, let’s come together to support families in need. We will be collecting non-perishable items like canned goods, pastas, rice, and cereal, as well as personal hygiene items too!

Bring your donations to Horizon’s during our monthly meeting on December 9th — a perfect way to share the spirit of the season while connecting with friends and colleagues!

Every item counts—let’s make this holiday brighter for those in need! Your generosity can make a big difference!

 VSHRM Watch Parties Continue!

There are three ways to attend the December meeting: In person at Horizons in Saginaw for $30, including lunch and the full meeting experience; in person at CMU in Mt. Pleasant, hosted by Dr. Amy McGinnis, where the livestream and free lunch are provided for registered attendees; or virtually from your computer for a small fee. Select the location most convenient for you, and we look forward to seeing you there.

President's Message

Hello!

Thank you for the meaningful ways you have contributed to VSHRM this year. Your participation has helped create opportunities for learning, connection, and professional growth, and I’m grateful to be part of this committed HR community.

Our December 9 luncheon will feature Dena Pflieger on “Developing Great Managers and Supervisors,” offering practical strategies for building leadership capacity and shaping healthy workplace cultures. We will also support Underground Railroad Inc. through our annual December charity drive.

For HR professionals, the holiday season brings a unique blend of activity, planning, and people-centered challenges. It’s not always a time of rest—but it can be a time of clarity, reflection, and renewed direction as we prepare for the year ahead. That message leads perfectly into our January 13 seminar, “Elevate HR: Mind, Tech & Trust,” intentionally designed to focus on the HR professional and equip us with tools for emotional intelligence, wellness, resilience, trust-building, and strategic leadership. We are currently SEEKING SPONSORS for this seminar and welcome organizations interested in increased visibility and engagement with HR professionals across the region.

As VSHRM transitions to SHRM’s Dual Membership Release (DMR) model, we want to emphasize that the only change is how you pay for your VSHRM membership. SHRM members will now renew once through SHRM and simply need to select Valley Society for Human Resource Management (VSHRM) as their local chapter to remain affiliated.

To support members during this transition, VSHRM is offering a dues holiday on local VSHRM chapter dues until your current SHRM membership expires—meaning you will not pay separate chapter dues during that period. For those who do not hold a SHRM national membership, please contact me directly to discuss your renewal options or submit a question here . Thank you for your patience, support, and cooperation as we navigate this transition. Full details are available at https://vshrm.shrm.org/dmr-faqs.

To help us continue to improve and better serve you, we have launched the VSHRM Member Engagement Survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ZZJFMXY. The survey will remain open, and multiple responses are encouraged as you think of new ideas for programming, communication, networking, volunteer opportunities, and overall member value. Your input will directly shape the future direction of VSHRM.

Wishing you a meaningful holiday season and a strong start to the new year. I look forward to beginning 2026 together—refreshed, reconnected, and ready to lead.

Think Safe. Be Well.

Treasury & IRS Announce

Penalty Relief for 2025 Reporting

On November 5, 2025, the Treasury and IRS issued guidance providing penalty relief for employers and payors regarding new reporting requirements under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). The OBBBA introduces above-the-line deductions for qualified tips and overtime compensation for tax years 2025–2028. For 2025, employers will not face penalties for failing to separately report cash tips or qualified overtime amounts, as the IRS treats this year as a transition period. Employers are encouraged to provide employees with detailed tip and overtime information to help them claim these deductions

ACA Reporting Deadlines & Updates for 2025

The IRS has finalized forms and instructions for Affordable Care Act (ACA) reporting for the 2025 calendar year. Key deadlines include March 2, 2026 for posting notices or furnishing Forms 1095-B/C to individuals, and March 31, 2026 for filing electronic returns with the IRS. Notably, reporting entities are no longer required to automatically furnish forms to individuals; instead, they may post a clear and accessible notice online. Employers should review the finalized instructions and prepare for electronic filing requirements.

Starting a career in HR is tougher than ever, but the SHRM Foundation is breaking barriers through scholarships, grants, and mentorship. Each year, over $600,000 supports students pursuing HR degrees—helping future leaders thrive.

Your donation of $50 or more fuels this mission and changes lives. Join us in empowering the next generation of HR professionals.
