Garden Expansion & Community Thanks

Our garden is blooming—and it wouldn't be possible without the incredible support from our community! A huge thank you to the Purdue Extension Marion County Master Gardeners, the Shamrock Garden Club, and the Eagle Scout service projects from CUMC Boy Scouts Troop #276 for helping create and maintain such a welcoming and therapeutic space for our guests and neighbors.

This spring, we’re excited to share that—thanks to the Boy Scouts’ dedication and hard work—we’ve expanded our garden plots, opening up more opportunities for local community members to grow with us.

We’re also deeply grateful to all the volunteers who helped haul mulch, spread gravel, and prepare the soil to ensure everything was ready for planting season. Because of your efforts, our guests are already enjoying fresh air, nature, and meaningful time spent gardening.

Feel free to swing by and take a seat while you enjoy the serene sounds and smells—our garden is a space of joy, growth, and connection for everyone in our community.

Alzheimer’s Foundation of America Grant – Weekly Drumming with Bongo Boys!

We are honored to share that the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America has renewed their support of Still Waters for another year! Their generous grant allows us to continue bringing innovative and meaningful programming to support seniors with cognitive impairments—and we are thrilled to introduce a new element this year.

Starting this spring, we are welcoming Lisa from Bongo Boys Music School to lead weekly drumming sessions at our center. Drumming is more than just fun—it’s therapeutic, energizing, and proven to support brain health. Research shows that group drumming can help reduce anxiety, elevate mood, and even improve motor skills and memory recall. For individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, drumming offers a creative outlet for expression and connection.

Our guests light up when the rhythms start—it's a sensory experience that taps into long-held memories and brings our community together in joy and harmony. Through rhythm, movement, and shared experience, we’re helping unlock communication and create meaningful moments for our seniors.

Thank you again to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America for believing in the power of music and supporting us in our mission to provide compassionate, life-enriching care.

Celebrating Our Volunteers – The Heart of Still Waters

From April 21–25, we joyfully celebrated Volunteer Appreciation Week, honoring the incredible individuals who give their time, talent, and energy to make Still Waters the warm, welcoming place it is.

Did you know we have 30 regular volunteers who support us on a weekly and monthly basis? Whether they're leading arts and crafts, baking birthday treats, holding a senior's hand, serving lunch with a smile, assisting in the garden, supporting our fitness classes, or helping at fundraising events, their impact is felt in every corner of our center. These volunteers are more than helpers—they're part of our family, bringing joy, companionship, and care to our seniors.

We are truly elated and grateful for the generosity and dedication of each one of them. Their presence enhances our programming, lifts spirits, and creates meaningful connections between generations and communities.

🌟 We’re Always Looking for More Helping Hands!

If you’ve been looking for a way to give back or connect with your community, we’d love to welcome you as a volunteer at Still Waters. Whether you can offer a few hours a month or a regular weekly commitment, your time can make a huge difference in the lives of our seniors.

No experience is needed—just a kind heart and willingness to serve.

We’re at Capacity – A Joyful Milestone!

I am overjoyed to share that this is the first time we have reached full capacity since I became director!

This spring, we proudly exceeded our daily attendance goal with 27 guests in one day, and we currently have 44 guests registered. The energy inside the center is electric, full of laughter, connection, and meaningful engagement. Our guests are truly like family, and our dedicated staff couldn't be more thrilled to see the rooms buzzing with conversation, music, movement, and care.

This milestone is a powerful tribute to our center's growth and success, which would not be possible without your ongoing support from our community, families, volunteers, and partners. Your trust in us fuels everything we do.

As we look to the future, we remain committed to serving our guests with excellence, compassion, and joy. Thank you for helping us make Still Waters a vibrant, loving space where seniors thrive.

Senior Expo – A Huge Success!

We are thrilled to share that our 2nd Annual Senior Expo was a tremendous success! Held last month, the event brought together 62 community vendors, nearly 200 attendees, and 20 enthusiastic volunteers, all with one shared goal—to support aging with dignity, connection, and resources.

From health screenings and wellness tips to legal advice and local services, guests had access to a wide variety of information and tools to help them and their loved ones prepare to age well. The event was filled with energy, learning, and community connections that we know will carry on well beyond the day itself.

A huge shoutout to Cheryl Curry, our Director of Marketing and Admissions, and Brooklyn, our talented IU Indianapolis intern, for their leadership in organizing this event. Their hard work, creativity, and passion were the driving forces behind its success!

We’re already looking ahead and can’t wait to welcome you back for our next Senior Expo in April 2026. Stay tuned—it’s only getting bigger and better!
