A new name for a brighter future

Allow us to (re)introduce ourselves.

Moments ago, we announced that our Board of Directors officially renamed Hale Reservation, Inc.

We're now Hale Education, Inc.

We believe—Hale believes—that nature, education, and recreation inspire us to learn, empower us to lead, and challenge us all to create a world in which people, place, and purpose are united.

That's why this new belief statement will guide us as we move forward in realizing our founder's vision: to engage with this space (and each other) in ways that are "charitable and benevolent in nature…to provide education which will develop intelligent, capable, and responsible citizens."

Why change the name?

Our organization has actually had several names since it was founded in 1918: Scoutland, the Robert Sever Hale Camping Reservation, and most recently, Hale Reservation. Once known primarily for our camps, we now reimagine learning through a diverse array of outdoor programs, curriculum design, school partnerships, and professional development, so the need for a name that captures our work in education was clear.

What is "a Hale education?"

#MyHaleEducation is different from your Hale education because "a Hale education" is unique to each learner. For some, it's learning to swim. For others, it's discovering that ponding is science, that climbing builds community, or that a quiet walk in the woods can renew mind, body, and spirit. As an organization, Hale Education invites us to question what it means to learn, and challenges us to think differently about how we do that.

The logo looks a little different.

Indeed it is! The colors are bolder, just like us. Two birds in flight represent education and recreation, both in nature. Our word mark now incorporates "education," but we also stylized the Hale name to look like a more playful version of itself from the 1970s—a period during which pioneering educators laid a lot of groundwork for our modern programs.

Is Hale still open to the public?

Yes. We continue to be a private nonprofit that welcomes visitors for passive recreation. If you appreciate our property, programs, and people, we hope you'll become a member of our community and invite you to make a gift that will positively impact future generations.
