What You Need to Know About the Industry Phase-Out:
There is a mandated industry phase-out of high GWP refrigerants such as R-410A and a transition to new, low GWP, A2L refrigerants such as R-32 and R-454. A2L refrigerants are more environmentally friendly than refrigerants such as R-410A but are slightly flammable and have different installation, leak detection, repair, and refrigerant documentation requirements.
Following is some info you should be aware of:
- Replacement of existing R-22 and R-410A refrigerant systems with new low GWP A2L refrigerants will require costly replacement of the entire system -components cannot be replaced piecemeal and older refrigerant systems cannot be retrofitted to use A2L refrigerants.
- New systems with A2L refrigerants will cost more than previous systems due to new system complexity and safety requirements.
- Replacement of system components (compressors, motors, coils, etc.) for existing systems using high GWP refrigerants such as R-410A will be a
- cost- effective option as long as these components are available.
- R-410A and R-22 refrigerants are still available but will become more expensive and scarce over time since these refrigerants are no longer produced.
- Par Heating & Air Conditioning technicians are fully trained, equipped, and certified to handle and service A2L refrigerants and equipment.
