| | | | September is Library Card Sign-Up Month! | | |
From ALA: The campaign started in 1987 as a response to then Secretary of Education William Bennett, who stated, “Let’s have a campaign … Every child should obtain a library card and use it.” Read a detailed account in this 2015 blog post at the American Library Association Archives, A Library Card for Every Child: Library Card Sign-Up Month, by Cara Bertram.
A library card opens new opportunities and experiences for everyone! Children who stop by during the month of September to either receive their very first library card* or check-out items with their existing card will receive a very special prize bag!
Inside, they'll find some goodies to help foster their love of reading and libraries. Limit one bag per child.
*Children must be able to write their first and last name unassisted. Parents/guardians must accompany child with proof of address.

Please join us, during this year's Sustainable Hudson Valley's Climate Solutions Week, as we unveil and dedicate our new NexTrex garden bench, made from recycled plastic! We, along with the help of our friends at Pleasant Valley Climate Smart, our patrons and community, have earned this bench by collecting 1,000 pounds of soft plastic film and packaging in just 9 months of the NexTrex Community Recycling Challenge.
Members of our staff, Pleasant Valley Library Board, and PV Climate Smart will be present to thank you all for assisting us in reaching our goal and for keeping this plastic out of our local landfill. We're pleased to share the bench with our community as a lasting symbol of our mutual commitment to sustainability.
