FROM THE ORGAN LOFT

A toccata (from the Italian "toccare," meaning "to touch") is a virtuosic piece of music typically written for keyboard instruments. It's characterized by:

  • Fast-moving passages
  • Dramatic flourishes
  • Improvisatory style
  • Technical display of the performer's skill

The most famous example is Bach's Toccata and Fugue in d minor (BWV 565)which I will be playing for the postlude this Sunday. This piece, written for organ, begins with its instantly recognizable dramatic toccata opening, featuring powerful runs and chords. The following fugue develops a simple subject into an intricate musical conversation between voices. I usually play this composition around Halloween. BOO!

Vestry Corner:

Key Topics from the October 2024

Vestry Meeting

1. The Vestry is pleased to share that we are only $15,000 away from our goal for the Handilift repair, in part due to some generous donors. There is an opportunity to finish the work if you want to make a one time donation.

2. The Vestry, in discussing the financial health of our organization, reminds everyone to pledge for the 2025 Stewardship Campaign either through the Google Form link in the weekly email or the paper pledge form at the back of the church.

3. Please also continue paying your 2024 pledge to ensure the continuation of our mission and ministry.

Minutes of the September 2024 meeting can be found HERE.

We invite people to testify if they are prayerfully led and also encourage them to send their prayer requests in advance if they wish. Some attendees come prepared from time to time to not only testify, but to give a word of encouragement.

Help Others “Ride in Love”!

Join four other parishioners who have already donated $43,500 for the repair/replacement of the Handi-Lift and allow all who enter Christ Church to either Walk or Ride in Love! In addition to the generous donations of these parishioners, our 50/50 Raffles and Jewelry Sale have raised an additional $3,096, bringing the grand total of funds raised for the repair to $46,596. This leaves us a little less than $13,000 to go!

If you would like to join those who will help close this funding gap and reopen Christ Church to all, independent of their physical abilities, please consider making a donation either through a check, Zelle or PayPal. Please designate your donation to “Ride in Love”.

The Christ Church Grief Support Group Corner

Our next session is

Tuesday, November 19 at 6pm.

This six-session series is for adults grieving the death of a loved one. The group includes education about grief and loss and provides participants an opportunity to share their experience.

Connecting with others hand-in-hand who are also grieving a loss can help you through this difficult journey. You will be provided with a safe, supportive environment for healing.

Using discussion and storytelling, can help you understand the grieving process and your emotions, as well as give you strategies for coping with guilt, anger and loneliness on special days and holidays.

It is recommended that participants wait at least two months after a death before attending a group.

There is no cost for attending this group and it is open to the public for registration.

Allow us to connect hand-in-hand with you!

6pm-7pm: November 19; December 17; January 7 & 21.
