Biomimicry Mobility Workshop

What can nature teach us about making Cincinnati easier to get around? Join the Cincinnati Innovation Team at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden for a free, hands-on workshop exploring how nature can inspire creative solutions to everyday challenges in our city.

"Biomimicry" is the design process of learning from nature to solve human challenges. From birds inspiring faster, quieter trains to fungi helping us design more efficient public transit routes, nature has already been helping humans generate ideas for how we build and navigate our communities and there is still much more it can teach.

Spend the morning exploring the Zoo, learning from nature, and brainstorming ideas with others about how we can make getting around our city easier, safer, and more comfortable. No experience in transportation, science, or design is needed! We're looking for curious people from all backgrounds who want to bring fresh perspectives to everyday challenges. Perhaps learning about the biomimicry design process will inspire you to carry that mindset over into your own work.

Challenges you might tackle:

  • Connectivity and getting around: buses, bikes, and everything in between
  • Walkable communities: driver safety, litter, public art, green space, air quality, and weather
  • Infrastructure for people and other species: designing with sustainability and shared use in mind
  • Everyday journeys: the needs of parents, caregivers, people of all abilities, and anyone navigating daily life
  • Stronger communities: neighborhood connection and mutual aid systems

Nature has spent millions of years finding creative solutions to movement and connectivity. Come explore what we can learn from it and imagine new possibilities for Cincinnati!
