Dear Bengal Family,
One of the things I love about interacting with Idaho State team members is that I get to hear so many individual Why Stories. I find myself inspired, every day, by the experiences and vision that bring our people to work every day, not just to do the job, but to make a positive difference in the lives of our students and colleagues. Today, I want to share one of those Why Stories with you, this one coming from Ashley Larson, advisor in the College of Business.
Growing up in a small Eastern Idaho town, I had big dreams of one day moving away, seeing the world, and building an exciting and successful life. To do any of that, I knew I would need a college education. Neither of my parents had received any sort of post-secondary education. Both worked mostly minimum wage jobs. When it came to higher education, all three of us were completely clueless. The area where I grew up did not have much of a college-going culture, and so I struggled to find the information and resources I needed at every turn. In fact, it was not uncommon for people to ask why I would “waste my time” going to college when I could find a job close to home and just work. While my family supported my dreams of going to college, none of us really knew what we were doing or how to get started.

Survivors of Suicide Loss Support Group - Updated Meeting Information |

Losing a loved one to suicide can be a profoundly painful and isolating experience. The complexity of the emotions can feel overwhelming, and survivors often struggle to know who to talk to for fear others won't understand. Counseling and Testing Service offers a group for survivors of suicide loss to connect with others who have suffered the loss of a loved one to suicide. This group will meet from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. via Zoom on the dates below. If your student is in need of support, this group is available. We’d like to introduce you to Lesley Brey, the new Editor-in-Chief of The Bengal. Lesley is a fifth-year senior at Idaho State University, working toward her B.A. in Philosophy with a minor in Professional Writing. Born and raised in Pocatello, her hobbies include hiking, writing, and reading. Aside from her work on The Bengal, Lesley also works for campus dining and is a long-time member of the ISU Sustainability club. New for Fall 2021: Convocation! |
Save the date for Idaho State’s newest tradition: Convocation! The first annual New Student Convocation will be held Friday evening, August 20, at the newly renovated Davis Field. The ceremony will be followed by the traditional New Student March through the Arch.
As graduation celebrates the attainment of a degree, convocation marks its beginning. In addition to welcoming your students, convocation aims to inspire new students and help them feel a connection to their new university family, as well as demonstrate ISU’s commitment to supporting students as they pursue their education. Please encourage your student to attend this important milestone.
