Important
It is with profound sadness that we inform you about a recent loss to Spartan Nation. Today, Thursday, March 14
th, 7
th grader Jerry Wayne Bryant passed away. Out of respect to the family, no other details are being shared. This tragic loss is sure to cause a variety of emotions, concerns, and questions from our entire community.
We have activated our Crisis Intervention Team, which is comprised of counselors, mental health therapists, and other professionals to help with the needs of students, parents, and school personnel at difficult times such as this. While we do have the supports and counselors at the schools for students who may need or want help, here are some suggestions on what you can do at home:
-Take the lead from your student. If your student wants to talk about the events, do so. Focus on the facts. Listen to their thoughts and feelings. Listening is more important than talking.
-Students who were emotionally fragile prior to this event may have a bigger response than others. Some reactions may be delayed by several days.
-Writing about the events may be a good release.
-Please make sure you communicate any concerns you might have regarding your student to the school.
Sincerely,
Ben Richards
