Oro Loma Presents: Our Path to Nutrient Treatment - What we did, what went right, and what did we learn?

Description: Is your organization contemplating nutrient treatment upgrades? Do you want to learn more about what it would take to upgrade your plant?

In 2020, the Oro Loma and Castro Valley Sanitary Districts converted its existing activated sludge process to nitrify and denitrify average flows of 16 million gallons per day. The $24.7M project took two years to build and is achieving less than 10 mg/L of Total Nitrogen in the effluent. Come hear the story of the project, photos from construction, what went right, and lessons learned that you and your organization can benefit from.

Description: Is your New Year's resolution to network with more students and young professionals (SYP) from the California Water Environment Association (CWEA)? If so (and even if not) this event is perfect for you! Please join us for the first happy hour networking social of 2022.

We’ll be providing free appetizers and a drink for each attendee!

Location: Drake’s Dealership is a full-service restaurant with 32 beers on tap. This classic brick building on Oakland’s historic Broadway Auto Row was once the sales and service department of an old Dodge Dealership. The crown jewel of the beautiful space is a grand open-air beer garden, featuring fire pits and Adirondack seating.

Description: The City of South San Francisco - San Bruno Water Quality Control Plant (WQCP) is an award-winning facility that provides wastewater treatment and ocean outfall disposal for the cities of South San Francisco, San Bruno, Millbrae, Burlingame, the San Francisco International Airport, and minor portions of Daly City and the Town of Colma. The facility has been in service since 1952 and serves approximately 100,000 customers. The average dry weather flow through the facility is 7 million gallons per day (MGD). The WQCP strives to be an environmental leader in providing progressive wastewater management through innovation, fiscal responsibility, teamwork, and community partnerships.
WQCP is under active construction. Attendees will need to wear closed toe shoes and bring a hard hat and safety vest for use during the tour. A small number of hats/vests are available upon request.

Lunch will be provided with tacos from La Potranca's food truck. Also, make sure you stay until the end, for your chance to win one of our great door prizes.

Dan Leigh

Description: Dan Leigh is a California registered Professional Geologist and Certified Hydrogeologist located in Walnut Creek, CA.. He has over 35 years of professional experience in soil and groundwater assessment and remediation at contaminated sites across the US and internationally.

He will share some of his past projects and approaches with us and provide some insight into groundwater remediation, which is a career also devoted to preserving clean water in our environment; however, many of our CWEA members may not be familiar with or even aware of this entire field! 
CEU's: CEU's will ONLY be given to members who register through Eventbrite prior to the event. Members can watch/participate ingroups - but each person MUST register individually to be eligible for a CEU certificate.

Door Prizes will also be drawn at end of presentation - but again - you must be registered and watching to be eligible to win.
