Build-A-Bed Event Announcement

Mark your calendars for our joint Build-A-Bed event at First Christian Church on Saturday, December 6–7 (please refer to the insert in this Sunday's bulletin for details) as we will need help both days.

  • On Saturday, December 6, we will need volunteers for help set up, cut and sand wood from 9AM - Noon

  • On Sunday, December 7, we will not have worship at CHPC. Instead, we’ll gather for a joint worship service at First Christian Church, followed immediately by our Build-A-Bed event.

Lunch will be provided by First Christian following worship.

We are collecting donations of twin sheets, pillows, new stuffed animals, and new diverse children’s books. Sign-up sheets will be available in the Narthex. If you sign up for any of the above, please bring them to the church by Sunday, November 30th.

As always, this is a wonderful opportunity to care for children in our Louisville community by providing them with a warm bed to sleep in this Winter!

18 Guns Brought to Safe-Disposal Event

Guns to Gardens Louisville received 18 weapons November 9 to be cut up and transformed into gardening tools, art, and household items. Two cars came from towns outside of Louisville bringing guns. It was a blustery, bitterly cold day, but G2GL volunteers (including a number from CHPC) were warmed by the response to the call to “beat swords into plowshares.”

This was the 7th G2GL safe-disposal event and the first in South Louisville. A new partnership has been forged with the host, Lynnhurst United Church of Christ. Grand total of guns dismantled since 2022 is 124. Thanks be to God that the word is spreading!

Choir Practice

Choir practice is held every Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Please feel free to come and see if this is something you might be interested in.

Book Study

Please join us Wednesday mornings, from 10:00 to 11:15, on Zoom, for study and discussion of the book "Christ in the Rubble: Faith, the Bible, and the Genocide in Gaza," by Munther Isaac.

The first meeting was October 29, but new folks are welcome anytime. Any questions can be directed to Claudia Foulkes, 502-939-4129. Please email Claudia at Cfoulkes3@gmail.com to get the Zoom link and be added to the group email list for regular communication.

Prayer and Action for Middle East

Feel free to join us Thursdays on Zoom, in-person, or both. This group has enabled such support for one another as we all struggle to cope with the tragedies in the Middle East and the on and off cease fires and prisoner releases. We would be grateful to have others join us. Email Soni at soni.castleberry@gmail.com to get the Zoom link and be added to the group email list for regular communication.

Did You Know?

What Presbyterians Believe about Confessions of Faith

The Lutheran and Reformed confessions of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries tended to be longer and more comprehensive summaries of faith. In reforming the church they dealt with the most critical theological and political issues that divided Roman Catholics and Protestants—and Lutheran, Reformed, and Anabaptist Protestants—in the Reformation and post-Reformation period. In every time and place the church is called to make the implications of its fundamental confession of the Lordship of Jesus Christ unmistakably clear and relevant. But in order to do that it has had in every new situation to decide afresh what to say and what to leave unsaid, how much and how little to say, what to emphasize and what for the time being to pass over,  which internal and external dangers are critical and which are less critical.
