'We Don't Have To Worry About The Future': Chicago's First Geothermal Apartment High-Rise Takes Shape

Bisnow Chicago

Beneath the site for 410 N. Elizabeth, Tree Street Group’s all-electric geothermal apartment building in Chicago, 65 bore holes reaching depths of 850 feet are a main component of the geothermal system that will reduce the building’s energy consumption by as much as 60% annually.

But when a building’s below-grade infrastructure breaks new ground in the metaphorical as well as literal sense, going vertical is another opportunity to grab headlines. Recognizing this was the case for TJ client Tree Street Group with 410 N. Elizabeth, Chicago’s first all-electric and geothermal multifamily high-rise, we offered an exclusive site tour to Bisnow Chicago as crews were finalizing installation of the 65 geothermal bore holes on the eve of the tower crane rising. Read more in the resulting profile about the basics of geothermal, its energy savings projections and its promise for the future of Chicago development. News of the milestone also appeared in Hoodline and Urbanize Chicago.
