September 11 Twentieth Anniversary

The exhibition includes a series of 14 posters presenting the events of September 11, 2001, the immediate aftermath of the attacks and the nine-month recovery period, and the ongoing repercussions of 9/11 to this day. Archival imagery, artifact photography, and individual stories accompany explanatory text to give visitors a deeper understanding of a key moment in modern American history.
View additional resources from the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum:
Take a moment to sit and reflect on the outdoor library bench dedicated to Captain Vincent Giammona, FDNY L-5 who made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11. The bench was donated by the Giammona, Caudullo and Julian families.

Summertime Fun at Bentley Library
Summer Scavenger Hunts - a huge success
Over 250 kids participated in our eight weekly scavenger hunts this summer. Three of the scavenger hunts took place on the library grounds and five were completed at home, on the road, or on vacation. We hope everyone had as much fun doing the hunts as we did making them.
Summertime Outdoor Programs
We were thrilled to host several programs in-person this summer. We held two adult book discussions and two children's storytimes. It was wonderful to spend time together in-person to read or discuss some wonderful books.
Bolton Kids Have Been Reading!
We are incredibly proud of all the reading Bolton kids have done all summer long. During the summer, kids who had read (or been read to) since their last visit were invited to write their name on an animal which was then hung up in the library. We had so many animals we created a "zoo" on one of our windows. All these great readers are ready to tackle the upcoming school year. Way to go! A short video of the animals will be on our website on September 7.

Outdoor Adult Book Discussion
"The Bookwoman of Troublesome Creek"
by Kim Michele Richardson
Wednesday, Sept. 22, 11:00 a.m. - noon
|
Join us outside on the library lawn for a discussion of this highly rated novel based on two historical aspects of Eastern Kentucky history, the Pack Horse Library Project and Kentucky "blue-skinned" people. The main character, Cussy Mary, is part of both groups. She is a book woman, dedicated to bringing books to her Appalachian community, and also has a rare genetic disorder called Methemoglobinemia which causes skin to appear blue due to low oxygen levels in the blood. Books are available at the library or you can download an e-book or audiobook from Hoopla. Registration required.
