Volunteer Opportunities at Camp Musser

Be a Campmaster

Do you love camp and want to spend the weekend without your unit??

Serve as a campmaster at Musser and help host units and guests using the property.  Come as an individual or team with family or fellow volunteers.  Over the weekend, you'll stay in a cabin and we'll provide you with on-site training.  This is a great opportunity for a weekend planning retreat for your Unit.  Volunteers must be at least 21 and commit to staying from Friday at 5:30 until Sunday at 12:00.

Camp Work Days

The second Saturday of most months is a work day for volunteers to help with different maintenance, improvement, and conservation projects throughout the property.  Regardless of your skills, help is always welcome.  And if you have a particular skill or talent in a trade, you can put them to work to benefit our Scouts!  Our next session is on November 12.

For information on these and other opportunities, contact Ranger Brian Lynn or visit the Musser Scout Reservation website.

Citizenship in the Nation Merit Badge - November 19

As an American involved in Scouting, you’ll need to earn your Citizenship in the Nation Merit Badge to reach the rank of Eagle. This badge will teach you what it means to be a good citizen and give you the knowledge and means to create a positive change in your country. Keep reading, because in this post I’ll be walking you through each of the answers needed to earn your Citizenship in the Nation merit badge!

Due to limited space, counselor requires that Scouts must be at least a First Class Scout to register for this Merit Badge Class.

This will be held on Saturday, November 19 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

at the Council Headquarters, 1485 Valley Forge Road.

Click here for information or to register.

Scout Night at the Philadelphia Flyers - November 29

District Safety Minute

Socks!  We're talking about socks?!  You bet.  Experienced campers and hikers know how important the right type and number of socks are for your Scouts.  A good pair of wool socks will cushion the feet, help prevent blisters, and keep feet warm and dry.  Remind your Scouts to pack multiple pairs of wool (not cotton) socks and to change them during the camping trip, especially putting on a fresh, dry pair before getting into their sleeping bags on these increasingly cool and cold nights.

Fun Fact to Know

Troop 151 at Marple Presbyterian Church in Broomall got its start in the 1930s.  In good Halloween spirit, this unit has "come back from the dead" several times in its history, first in the 1950s and then again in 2011.
