What qualities does someone need to be innovative? What is one of the most desirable skills sought by employers? The answer to both: CREATIVITY. Arts education is critical to fostering an innovative and economical healthy community. Arts develop a drive for excellence, visual thinking, pattern recognition, problem solving, and perseverance.

Arts education boosts academic success and more.

An analysis of U.S. Department of Education data by UCLA research James Catterall found that students who were highly involved in the arts performed better on a variety of academic measures than other students--grade point averages, standardized test scores, lower drop-out rates, and better attitudes about community service.

Our business leaders, and innovators of tomorrow are the students in our class rooms today.

ReCreate-- supporting arts education and innovation.

We are proud to feature this organization that delivers a STEAM maker education. Their GeniusMobile is a program on wheels bringing hands-on project-based learning to schools in our region. They also promote the 3 R's: reduce, reuse, recycle and use re-purpose items for the hands-on projects.

ReCreate is also working to inspire educators to create and repurpose. With an ACPC Community Arts Grant, funded by Placer County, ReCreate hosted a workshop lead by Education Coordinator Madeline Huttie, and Founder/ CEO of Atrium 916 Shira Lane. She had a conversation with attendees about reuse infrastructure in California, the joy of creative reuse, and how to make reuse fun and cool. Plus the workshop included some hands-on fun for participants!

Learn more about ReCreate programs, and their Craft Thrift Store where they collect perfectly good, incredibly cool—but no longer needed—materials from local businesses and sell them to artists, crafters, sewers, knitters, costume-makers, artists, and anyone with a project:
