LEGISLATION HIGHLIGHTS

ADDING REGULATIONS TO DATA CENTERS

The development of data centers has raised significant concerns among residents in the City of South Fulton, and Councilwoman Willis is transparent and factual information regarding efforts to mitigate any potential impacts on our community. Data centers play a crucial role in storing, processing, and managing the vast amounts of data that businesses and residents depend on for various operations, including hosting websites and cloud services. In response to these concerns, on September 24, 2024, the City Council unanimously approved an amended ordinance that introduces specific regulations governing data center approvals, ensuring that all data centers will require a special use permit. This ordinance outlines additional requirements aimed at safeguarding our community's interests. Currently, six data centers are proposed in areas zoned for industrial use, located at: 200 Selig Drive, 4762 Bakers Ferry Rd, 6050 Fulton Industrial Blvd, 4380 Stacks Road, 0 Plummer Road (across from 6500 Plummer Rd), and 0 Stonewall Tell. We encourage residents to engage in ongoing dialogue and share their thoughts and concerns as we work together to ensure the well-being of our community amidst these developments.

A RESOLUTION DIRECTING CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS FOR RESIDENT RATES AT MERK MILES CITIZEN CONVENIENCE CENTER FOR FY2026

We appreciate the concerns residents have about the affordability of the Merk Miles Transfer Station fee structure. In response to these concerns, Councilperson Willis has proposed a resolution to negotiate a new fee structure in 2026 that would allow residents to dispose of up to 360 lbs. of waste for a fee of $10, an improvement from the current limit of 150 lbs. This initiative aims not only to make waste disposal more affordable but also to help reduce instances of illegal dumping, thereby enhancing our community's overall cleanliness and safety. We understand that residents are currently supplementing the operations and processing of materials while paying their annual sanitation bill, and we believe this adjustment will alleviate some of the costs of using the transfer station. We invite you to share your feedback and thoughts on this proposal at the next city council meeting on February 25, 2025, at 7 pm by signing up to speak during public comments.
