Coffee with the Pastor

Do you have something to talk to the new pastor about, but you'd rather talk outside of the church environment? Do you just want to meet and have a chat about absolutely nothing (which I am really good at!!!) over a great cup of coffee? You are invited to stop by and have coffee (or whatever your preference of drink is) with Pastor Tami Thursday morning, June 27, from 8 to 10 a.m., at Blue Dog Bakery on Frankfort Ave.

Dessert Lunch to Celebrate Ken Cordle

OPS and NOW Get Down to Business

Free pizza and the opportunity to get more involved in God’s mission through Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church drew 21 people to the fellowship hall June 10. Following the meal and conversation, the church’s two new committees, OPS and NOW, met separately to carry on their work.

OPS Committee:

  • Discussed and began setting priorities among the areas they oversee, including building and grounds, stewardship and giving, budget, investments, personnel, AV system, marketing and social media, insurance, and church policies.
  • Agreed that Barbara Hedspeth, Marsha Berry, and Pastor Tami will work with current church treasurer Jack Marcum on developing a job description and finding a new church treasurer.
  • Began process of addressing deferred maintenance issues, including some exterior painting.
  • Authorized Jack Marcum and Doug Yeager to review current budget and finances.

NOW Committee:

  • Formed an Advisory Group for Worship/Liturgy: Patti Marcum, Beth Yeager, Rick Roderick, and Jerry Van Marter. This group with consult with Pastor Tami and the music director about issues involving liturgy, worship, music.
  • Heard a report that Pentecost Offering receipts totaled $1,315.07. Forty percent of that total ($526.03) will go to House of Hope children’s ministry in the West Bank of Israel. The rest will go to fund youth and children’s ministries of the PC(USA).
  • Asked Beth Yeager to coordinate with the church office to set a date in August for the annual worship/picnic at Cedar Ridge Camp.
  • Engaged in a wide-ranging conversation on topics including (1)what we want CHPC to look like (a welcoming congregation where people feel they belong), (2) how we can build up the community (church and beyond), (3) how to find collaborators (because a small church cannot do everything), (4) how to become a community that calls forth the ministries of its members in a way that is not obligatory but builds on what folks are passionate about.

Mark your calendar for the next meeting of NOW/OPS: Wednesday, July 10, opening with dinner at 6 p.m.
