MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT AND CEO

Season's Greetings!

I hope you enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving. As we move into the heart of the holiday season, our programs are buzzing with celebrations, shared meals, special projects, field trips, and joyful moments that remind us why our work matters. We have so much to be grateful for, especially you—our friends and supporters—who stand with us in empowering possibilities for children and adults with special needs.

A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who contributed to our Holiday Toy Drive. Because of your generosity, our youngest children in Early Start and students at Kayne Eras School will experience the joy of receiving a gift chosen just for them. Your support means the world to them and to their families, many of whom face significant challenges this time of year.

Your commitment makes all the difference. Thanks to you, thousands of children, adults, and families we support can celebrate another year filled with milestones, achievements, and renewed hope for the future.

On their behalf, thank you. May you enjoy the peace and joy that come from knowing the profound impact you make—and the light you help spark for the year ahead.

With warmest regards of the season,

Veronica Arteaga, LCSW

President & CEO

Art That Rebuilds: Donation Helps Wildfire Survivors Turn Houses Into Homes

A generous donation from our Board member, Paul Zimmerman, in support of our Art Centers benefited fire victims of Altadena and the Palisades through A Sense of Home. A Sense of Home (ASOH) helps wildfire survivors recover and rebuild their lives, refurnishing their new spaces not just with essential household items, but also thanks to this generous donation, with unique and uplifting pieces of art by ECF Art Centers artists. “The beautiful art brings dignity and character to a space, helping transform a house into a home—which is precisely what ASOH aims to do,” says Alistair Campbell, Director of the ASOH Disaster Recovery Program.

Art recipient, Ray, shows his piece by ECF artist Daisy Hunt. Liz and Ray lost their home in Altadena during the Eaton fire. They have a daughter and have moved into a long-term rental in Alhambra.

Cavonae shows off her beautiful art, created by Vanessa McConnell. Cavonae and her family were living their third-generation family home in Altadena. She has previously worked with adults with disabilities and is now a hair stylist who used to work from home, but lost her space, equipment, and inventory as well as her childhood home. She and her family have moved into a home in Temple City.

The Early Start Arleta program held a Family Potluck in celebration of gratitude and togetherness. Families and staff came together to share food, connect, and reflect on all the things they are thankful for. It was a warm and joyful gathering that highlighted the strong sense of community within the program.

GENEROUS PARTNERS HELP ECF ENSURE FAMILIES ENJOY A HOLIDAY MEAL

This Thanksgiving, ECF Early Start families felt the warmth of community thanks to the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local 13. Once again, these dedicated partners stepped forward to ensure our client families received turkeys and groceries for the holiday. Their generous support brought relief—and plenty of smiles—as ECF staff handed out bags filled with everything needed for a festive meal.

ILWU Local 13 has faithfully supported ECF’s Early Start program families for many years, making Thanksgiving brighter for countless households. We are deeply grateful for their continued commitment, compassion, and steadfast care for our community.
