Announcement of the publication of the new Tri-Agency Guidance on Research Security by federal research funding agencies

This new webpage provides the latest guidance for the research community, with regards to the implementation of research security measures by the federal research funding agencies. We encourage UWindsor researchers to familiarize themselves with this guidance, as well as the linked policies, guidelines, and resources provided by the Government of Canada.

If you have any questions about research security, feel free to email researchsecurity@uwindsor.ca

Funding Opportunities

UWindsor Deadlines for Applications

To ensure the institutional approval required for any funding application submitted from UWindsor, the Faculties and ORIS have internal deadlines in advance of the agency’s deadline. The internal deadlines also provide an opportunity for feedback to strengthen the application.

No later than the internal deadline, email to your ORIS coordinator and Associate Dean Research or counterpart (1) the rough copy of application, and (2) begin an ERSO record, attaching a draft of the application, and submit for approval to your department head.

NSERC and the NRC launch a collaborative funding opportunity to advance the industrial readiness of quantum sensing technologies

NSERC and the NRC are partnering through Alliance Quantum grants to launch a call for proposals to strengthen Canada's quantum research and innovation capacity in quantum sensing and advance the development and application of technologies in this domain for the benefit of Canadians.

Funding will support R&D partnerships among university researchers, NRC researchers and for-profit small- or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) which are federally and/or provincially/territorially incorporated in Canada. Other organizations from the private, public or not-for-profit sectors may join such partnerships.

NSERC will provide support toward eligible research costs incurred by the academic team. Through CSTIP, the NRC will provide contribution funding to the participating Canadian SME(s). Together, the two agencies will provide an envelope of up to $12 million over three years.

Please refer to the call for proposals for more information. Applications will be accepted until 8 pm (Eastern Time) on June 14, 2024. Applications are due at ORIS 5 business days before the external deadline.

NSERC Form 100D – Consent to Provide Limited Personal Information about HQP to NSERC

All NSERC applicants must ensure that they have a Form 100D completed for all HQP where their limited personal information is described in your CCV and/or your application. Find a copy of this form here with more detailed information.

NSERC Alliance International grants

Alliance International grants is a new funding stream to support Canadian university researchers working with leading international academic researchers to establish and grow international research collaborations and projects of global importance that will generate benefits to Canada.

Alliance International is a new, permanent stream of Alliance. There is no deadline to apply and grants will be awarded throughout the year. Alliance International offers two grant types: Catalyst grants and Collaboration grants.

NSERC Alliance-Mitacs Accelerate Grants

NSERC and Mitacs have launched a new program to leverage the resources and funding of both organizations; NSERC recognizes all industry cash towards the global budget of joint applications (which includes enhanced HQP training delivered through Mitacs Accelerate internships).

  • If you missed the webinar, see the slides with the information on the new program and the link to the recorded webinar here.
  • Please notify Sara Kenno or Michelle Nevett of ORIS or Wilson Luo at Mitacs if you wish to apply.

NSERC announces improvements to Alliance grants program

In 2022–23, NSERC evaluated the Alliance program through surveys, consultations and interviews with stakeholders. The perspective of the community, along with NSERC’s experience to date, shaped the changes described below.

These changes aim to make the Alliance grants program even more simple, flexible, modernized and responsive. They will help to:

  • remove barriers to collaboration
  • champion more research partnerships
  • provide efficient and responsive proposal assessment
  • strengthen relationships with the research community
  • ensure inclusive research support

NSERC Alliance Option 1 has been replaced by Alliance Advantage.

NSERC Alliance Option 2 has been replaced by Alliance Society.

We strongly encourage all faculty to review program websites as page limits, matching funds, and other details have been revised.

NSERC Collaborative Research and Training Experience Program

NSERC’s Collaborative Research and Training Experience program (CREATE) has recently undergone a renewal process to simplify its requirements and application procedures. These changes were communicated last December. Please note one adjustment to these changes which impacts the Letter of Intent quota, highlighted in Bold type below. The following will be reflected in the online program description in March 2024:

  • Please note the adjustment made to the previously announced revised quota in December 2023. As of January 17, 2024, University Letter of Intent (LOI) quota remains the same as before: six for large institutions, four for medium sized institutions, and two for small institutions.
  • The LOI stage is now non-competitive, meaning that the LOIs are not adjudicated by the selection committee and proceed directly to the application stage.
  • LOI submissions are still required by May 1, but less information is required.
  • The industrial stream has been eliminated. Industrial participation in CREATE initiatives is encouraged, but the extent and nature of industrial participation is determined by the applicants and their industrial partners.
  • Mobility experiences are now mandatory for all master and doctoral trainees, with a minimum duration of one month at the master level and two months at the doctoral level.

For questions, contact the CREATE program team at create@nserc-crsng.gc.ca.
