Security: Okta SSO accounts targeted in vishing-based data theft attacks

BleepingComputer
Okta is warning about custom phishing kits built specifically for voice-based social engineering (vishing) attacks. BleepingComputer has learned that these kits are being used in active attacks to steal Okta SSO credentials for data theft.

In a new report released today by Okta, researchers explain that the phishing kits are sold as part of an "as a service" model and are actively being used by multiple hacking groups to target identity providers, including Google, Microsoft, and Okta, and cryptocurrency platforms.

Unlike typical static phishing pages, these adversary-in-the-middle platforms are designed for live interaction via voice calls, allowing attackers to change content and display dialogs in real time as a call progresses. Read More

Homeland Security: Winter is not a surprise for emergency management professionals

Homeland Security Today

Winter weather is one of the most predictable hazards we face. We know when it is coming. We understand the risks. We can model the impacts with increasing precision. And yet every year we still see preventable injuries, preventable deaths, and avoidable strain on response systems.

That reality is not an indictment of our profession. It is a reminder of how thin the margin can be between readiness and regret.

For emergency management professionals, winter storms are not dramatic events. They are operationally familiar. They test continuity of operations, transportation systems, healthcare access, utilities, and the fragile edges of social support. They also reveal something else that we often talk about but do not always prioritize in practice: preparedness communication saves lives. Read More

Transportation: Tesla robotaxi rides without safety drivers start in Austin

Transport Topics

Tesla Inc. is beginning to offer actual robotaxi rides in Austin, a milestone for the carmaker that launched a service seven months ago with vehicles that have relied on human supervisors sitting in front seats.

CEO Elon Musk touted the development in an X post Jan. 22, sharing a video from an ex-Tesla artificial intelligence engineer. The CEO announced last month that testing without any occupants in the company’s cars was underway.

Tesla’s head of AI, Ashok Elluswamy, wrote in a separate post that “a few” of the vehicles in the company’s Robotaxi fleet will be unsupervised. The ratio of vehicles without safety monitors will increase over time, he said. Read More

Human Resources: Tech hiring intentions are down despite demand for tech-oriented skills, report says

HR Dive

Tech hiring is moderating at the beginning of 2026 — not because of a lack of demand, but because employers are reconsidering how they plan to access tech skills, according to Experis’ Tech Talent Outlook report released Jan. 15.

Tech employers in the U.S. reported a Net Employment Outlook — calculated by subtracting the percentage of employers anticipating staff reductions from those planning to hire — of 33% for Q1 2026, a 10-percentage-point decline from last quarter and a 19-point drop year over year, Experis said.

To find the skills they need, employers are instead turning to upskilling and reskilling current employees, though just over a quarter said they aim to target new and underrepresented talent pools. Employers also said they intended to increase pay to remain competitive. Read More
