On Monday Feb 9, a parishioner notified me that there was an issue with their Giving Statement for 2025. She reported that there were 2 gifts on her statement dated Aug 24 and Nov 15 that were not hers and that her actual gift from Mar 9, 2025 was not listed.
Further investigation revealed that:
- The two gifts that were not hers should have been recorded to the Food Pantry and totaled $17k.
- The same amount of the subject persons payment was reported on Mar 9 2025 was recorded on the pledge giving tally sheet for another family. (The images of the checks in the deposit were checked against what was recorded on the tally sheet.)
Actions:
The 4 parties affected by this mixup will be given new Giving Statements.
The Finance Committee recommended to the vestry and the vestry agreed that the statements for 2025 be updated to reflect the $17k reduction in Regular Giving (Account 40050) and the increase in the Food Pantry (31400 on the Financial Position Statement) Account Value. This change resulted in a 2025 income of -$10.5k not the +$6.5k reported at the annual meeting. You can see the updated reports here.
The treasurer, the rector and others who have knowledge of the weekly counting and giving reporting procedures will review and update the processes to reduce the chances of this happening in the future.
The Parish is reminded to check their giving statements when they are received and report any discrepancies to the Treasurer, Ray Rogers (cell 570-216-2476) or the Sr. Warden, Robb Pflock (cell 508-642-8714.)
I will be available after the 10 AM service on Sunday Feb 15 to answer questions.
