Dear Silicon Flatirons Community,

Silicon Flatirons has been at our best this fall. We’ve convened interesting configurations of people, explored timely topics, revealed new patterns of thinking, and built community. I am excited to report that we’ve added a new Senior Fellow, Lisa Hone, who brings deep policy-making expertise to the Center. It is fun to see momentum building throughout Silicon Flatirons.

This fall we have resumed a full, in person event calendar. I’m proud of the excellent caliber of our fall events. Professor Kristelia Garcia convened leading thinkers in copyright in September. Spectrum Initiative Co-Directors Dale Hatfield and Keith Gremban, in collaboration with Senior Fellow Peter Tenhula, featured notable policy makers, academics, businesspeople, technologists, and attorneys in our October Spectrum Conference. And Professor Margot Kaminski has lined up a superb group for this Friday’s Transparency and the Tech Sector Conference.

In addition to our Conferences, Silicon Flatirons has launched two new programs. Professors Harry Surden and Margot Kaminski started our new AI and Ethics series, co-sponsored with the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Collegiate Program at Colorado Law. Silicon Flatirons Fellow Casey Fiesler led a high quality kickoff event in October. Meanwhile, the Startup Variety Show continues to get rave reviews, as we bring Colorado’s Front Range startup community to campus on a monthly basis.

A series of high caliber events and programs don’t just happen. Our team—Nate Mariotti, Sara Schnittgrund, Shannon Sturgeon, and Christine McCloskey—is working hard. And our team is effective. This fall we lost Katherine Koebel, who transitioned into a well-earned promotion across campus. We wish Katherine the best in her next steps.

More about Silicon Flatirons people and programs is below. I look forward to seeing you at a Silicon Flatirons event soon.
