Happy Friday, Mason District,
I want to start off by wishing everyone a Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! As a Colombian immigrant and the first Hispanic Supervisor of Mason District, it means the world for me to be able to celebrate these next several weeks with you all and honor the rich Hispanic culture of Mason District.

In this edition of Mason Matters, I'll sharing the various events my office is putting on this Fall, community engagement resources from Fairfax County, and a brand-new segment highlighting what we're accomplishing right here in Mason.
As always, thank you for staying engaged and connected with our community.
If my office can be of assistance, please reach out at Mason@fairfaxcounty.gov or call our main line at 703‑256‑7717.
Sincerely,

Pedestrian safety tied with clean public services is what keeps Mason District beautiful and enjoyable for all. This summer, the Little River Turnpike EB @ Oasis Drive Project was completed, includimg construction of a new concrete bus pad, bus shelter, bench, and trash receptacle. The project also included approximately 270 linear feet of concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalks, 9-inch-thick concrete bus lane, pedestrian refuge islands, traffic signal modifications and pedestrian signal, pavement milling and overlay, traffic signage, and pavement markings.

| | Route 7/Culmore Sidewalk Project | | |
For years, Mason District residents have raised concerns about missing sidewalk along Route 7 near Magnolia Avenue and the Halal Hunan Village Center. This gap left pedestrians without a safe and direct path between the nearby Shell gas station and the shopping center just down the road.
Yesterday, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and I voted to endorse the design plans for the Route 7/Culmore Sidewalk project.
Here's what's coming:
✅ 500 feet of new sidewalk connecting Magnolia Ave to Halal Hunan Village Center
✅ Upgraded and realigned curb ramps at the Shell gas station, Liberty gas station, and Magnolia Ave/Halal Hunan Village entrances
✅ Curb and gutter shifted to make room for pedestrians

Fairfax County Offers Free Trees to Community Organizations
Community-based organizations in Fairfax County can apply to receive free trees for planting on private properties in the fall, through a program by Fairfax County’s Urban and Community Forestry Division (UCFD) of the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES).
The “Free Trees to Community Organizations” program, offered in partnership with Casey Trees, is designed to help community organizations in Fairfax County – such as volunteer groups, civic associations and faith-based organizations – obtain high-quality, professionally grown trees suitable for planting. Purchasing top-quality trees can be a challenge for these organizations.
UCFD will prioritize applications for tree-planting sites within or adjacent to Fairfax County-designated highly vulnerable communities, as defined by the county’s One Fairfax policy and its associated Vulnerability Index. While planting in highly vulnerable communities will be prioritized, all community organizations are encouraged to apply for tree delivery, regardless of where tree planting is proposed.
The costs of the trees and delivery are covered by the county’s Tree Preservation and Planting Fund and will be offered at no cost to participating organizations.
Applications for the Fall 2026 planting season are due by October 30. APPLY HERE!
