Special Coverage: Jan. 6 committee hearings
The House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol has scheduled two public hearings, with more possible. The first is at 7 p.m. tonight, with a second hearing confirmed for Monday, June 13 to begin at 9 a.m. NPR will provide live coverage with context and analysis, and you can hear it all on KGOU. We'll also carry a live video feed on our website.
Still to come this month is special coverage following rulings from the current term of the U.S. Supreme Court, including in the case of Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization concerning abortion. The rulings could come at any time before the end of the month, and at a moment's notice. Stay tuned.

Throughline wins Peabody Award
Throughline has won a Peabody Award for its three-episode series Afghanistan: The Center of the World. The series aired in 2021, twenty years after 9/11, and just weeks after U.S. troops withdrew from Afghanistan, and the Taliban took control of the country. While many other news outlets focused coverage on this pivotal moment from a U.S. perspective, Throughline took a different approach, shifting the narrative to center on Afghanistan and its people. Congratulations to Ramtin Arablouei and Rund Abdelfatah and the NPR team!

KGOU Readers Club: Oklahoma Beer
The KGOU Readers Club selection for June is Oklahoma Beer: A Handcrafted History by Brian Welzbacher. Oklahoma came into the Union as a dry state, and carried prohibition into the late 1950s. In the shadow of bootlegging and choc beer brewers, a few pioneers found ways to produce quality local beers in a resurgent craft beer industry. Join us for the next Readers Club discussion Monday, June 27 at 1 p.m. on KGOU.

More awards: Have you heard of the 'Rustys?'
They're not exactly the Peabodys, but the CARS vehicle donation program hands out Rusty Hubcap awards to local public radio stations every year. During 2021 the Most Valuable Vehicle was a 1997 Porsche 911 that won a 'Rusty' -- and provided nearly $40,000 in funding -- to station KDFC in San Francisco. Across town, KQED won the Oldest Car Rusty for a 1923 Ford Model T, pictured above. If we'll take a car that's almost 100 years old, we'll take your old heap, too. Be sure to name KGOU as the beneficiary and help pay for the shows you love.
