Jeff Shook, an associate professor of social work and principal investigator of the Pitt Wage Study, co-wrote this Tribune-Review op-ed taking UPMC to task over how it pays its housekeeping, food service, transportation, medical techs, assistants and aides.

Research Manager Laurie Mejia was recertified as a Certified Research Administrator (CRA) by the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC) in December 2020. Research Associate Professor Mary Elizabeth Rauktis and Elizabeth Moser, MSW wrote the article "Child and Animal Maltreatment: Intersections, Challenges and Opportunities When Intervening with Maltreating Families" for the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC) Advisor, a peer reviewed quarterly news journal for professionals in the field of child abuse and neglect. 

The Alpha Phi Alpha Foundation has elected MSW alumnus Charles Greene as its new chairman. The foundation was created by the Eta Tau Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. to provide financial assistance to nonprofit organizations that service and support the minority community in Greater Akron. On March 2, the 2021 Community Engaged Scholarship Forum recognized the people and groups recipients of the Partnerships of Distinction honor including the Justice Scholars Institute a program that provides courses for college credit, workshops that help students understand the expectations of the college environment, and real-world learning experiences that engage the youth in their community.

The program is part of the Pitt-Assisted Communities & Schools program led by Co-PIs Drs. John Wallace and James Huguley.
