Building together, playing together | | |
This July, Coral Gables celebrates National Park and Recreation Month with the theme Build Together, Play Together. Our Community Recreation Department lives this theme every day, creating spaces and experiences that enhance the quality of life for residents of all ages and abilities.
Building community means bringing people together to celebrate, and our special events team does just that. After dazzling thousands with a centennial-themed drone show and fireworks on the Fourth of July, the team is already planning the return of community favorites like the Pumpkin Patch, Christmas Tree Lighting, and Hot Chocolate with Santa.
Whether you’re playing pickleball at the Biltmore Tennis Center, swimming laps at the Country Club pool, or meeting neighbors at the Farmers Market, Coral Gables is where we build together and play together all year round.

The William H. Kerdyk, Sr. Biltmore Tennis Center is serving up new opportunities for residents to stay active and connect on the courts. Two tennis courts have recently been transformed into six new pickleball courts, giving this fast-growing sport a dedicated home in Coral Gables.
Open Play sessions are offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with morning play for all levels and evening times for skill-based matches. Young players can also take advantage of summer programming designed just for them. The My First Tennis Camp welcomes budding players ages 4–5, while the Summer Smash Tennis Camp helps kids ages 6–16 sharpen their skills and enjoy friendly competition.
Whether you’re picking up a paddle or racket for the first time or looking to perfect your swing, the Biltmore Tennis Center has something for everyone to enjoy.

The Coral Gables Adult Activity Center (AAC) is the perfect place for residents to stay active, engaged, and connected year-round. With a wide variety of programs and activities — from balance and wellbeing classes to high-intensity cardio, dance, fine arts, language groups, and even pickleball — there’s something for everyone. Visitors can also enjoy yoga, Tai Chi, Zumba, discussion groups, support circles, and tabletop games that bring neighbors together.
In addition to daily programming, the center partners with the Coral Gables Art Cinema to host special movie screenings. It also holds special events like the upcoming Quinceañera Luncheon at The Palace, multiple Senior Week festivities, and themed celebrations like the Western Roundup and the Halloween Spooktacular. The AAC ensures our community’s seniors have opportunities to gather, celebrate, and make lasting memories.
| | Park upgrades coming soon | |
July is Park and Recreation Month, and Coral Gables has plenty to celebrate with new park openings and major renovations underway. Ingraham Park’s fitness zone is being upgraded with new equipment and improved flooring, giving residents a refreshed space to stay active outdoors.
Pet lovers and their furry friends can enjoy a renovated Salvadore Dog Run Park featuring new walkways, landscaping, fencing, and more.
Looking ahead, Blue Road Open Space will be transformed with new amenities, while the new Mayor Dorothy H. Thomson Park will open with a Wizard of Oz theme, complete with a yellow brick road.
| | Creating inclusive spaces for all | |
The Accessible Recreation team works year-round to ensure everyone feels welcome and included in our parks and programming. An example of their work is the Sensory Friendly Fourth of July event, which offers a festive experience tailored for individuals and families who benefit from a calmer, more accessible celebration.
As part of its commitment to inclusivity, the city now provides Aira’s on-demand ASL and Explorer interpreting services free of charge at the War Memorial Youth Center, City Hall, and along Miracle Mile, helping ensure that language is never a barrier to enjoying all that Coral Gables has to offer.

The Coral Gables Golf & Country Club, the city’s first public building, continues to shine as a premier community destination. Recently named Best Wedding Venue of 2024 by The Miami Herald Miami-Dade Favorites, the club has hosted an impressive 242 events since June alone.
Beyond its beautiful event spaces, members enjoy perks like Members’ Mixers, Sunday Poolside BBQs, and childcare while using the fitness amenities. While the Venetian Pool undergoes restoration, several of its popular activities have found a temporary home at the Country Club’s pool.
This summer, families can take advantage of the Golf Academy of South Florida Half-Day Golf Summer Camp for ages 5–13 and the Club Kids Summer Camp for ages 5–12, making the club a center of fun, relaxation, and community.
