A message from our President

We have a great Annual Meeting planned for this year! Be sure to mark your calendar for this luncheon, which will be on Saturday, May 16th, at the Palmetto Club. During this critical meeting, members will vote on the proposed 2026-2027 budget, bylaws changes, and a slate of new officers and directors. Documents related to these agenda items are included for your review in this edition of The Voter.

Following the business meeting, the highly esteemed Dr. Susan MacManus, known as “Florida’s most quoted political scientist”, will be our guest speaker. The focus of her life’s work has been on elections, women and minorities, and redistricting. We are honored to have her speak. The board and I hope to see you at this important meeting. See below for details.

Nancy Vaughn

LWVVC President 2025 - 2027

In reviewing the proposed budget, I realized the incredible work our League accomplishes with so little. We are fortunate to have a committed membership that supports us every year through dues and volunteer service. You will note that our membership dues are split between the local, state, and national Leagues. We receive 20% of those funds, which we use to cover general operating costs. We are grateful to so many of our members who make additional donations, which allow us to meet our ever-increasing costs and to expand our community outreach.

Budgets reflect the mission and goals of an organization, as does ours, with the largest portion of our budget allocated to Voter Service, the backbone of the League. We are heartened by the public response to our outreach in the community. We are planning many more events this spring and summer to help bring essential information to Volusia voters, as the mid-term elections will soon be upon us. Please follow our website and social media posts to stay updated.

You, our members, are paramount to our success. Your dedication of time, talent, and in-kind support enables us to continue to defend democracy. I am so very proud to serve the League as president and thank each of you for being part of our organization. —Nancy
