DNA Reminder for All Upcoming Shows

DNA parent verification (parentage test) must be completed and recorded in REDSPro on the individual animal and verified to the greatest extent possible before an animal is shown at any Red Angus national or regional show including the Red Angus Youth Expo. Animals must be on R or I status.

All cattle must meet both requirements (parentage test and registration status) by noon the day after check-in, if the show schedule allows, at the following junior and open shows: Iowa State Fair, KILE, NILE, American Royal, Western National Red Angus Show, NAILE, Cattlemen’s Congress, Fort Worth Stock Show and Red Angus Youth Expo.

DNA will be collected from all Grand and Reserve Champions, as well as overall winners in every show, for parentage verification. Producers are encouraged to submit DNA as early as possible to allow time for lab processing. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for results.

For questions regarding DNA, please contact the RAAA DNA department at dna@redangus.org or erin@redangus.org.

Percentage female shows are offered at Iowa State Fair, NILE, American Royal, Western National Red Angus Show, NAILE, Cattlemen’s Congress and Red Angus Youth Expo.

Friday, Sept. 12, 9 a.m. in conjunction with National Red Angus Convention

Don’t miss this opportunity to step inside one of the nation’s most critical research facilities! Join us for a guided tour of the USDA National Laboratory for Genetic Resources Preservation, a cutting-edge center dedicated to protecting the future of American agriculture.

During this exclusive tour, you'll explore advanced laboratories and high-security storage vaults that house the genetic building blocks of our livestock and food crops. You'll also get an inside look at the innovative projects preserving vital genetic material, like semen and embryos, that form the foundation of resilient breeding programs nationwide.

Why it matters: The NLGRP serves as a genetic safety net for American agriculture, ensuring valuable traits such as fertility, disease resistance, growth and environmental adaptability are not lost to disease, disasters or time. This “genetic insurance policy” not only protects producers but also fuels long-term performance gains and sustainability in our herds.

Spaces are limited. Make plans now to join this unforgettable experience and see firsthand how science is safeguarding the future of Red Angus.
