OUR ENDURANCE: Ten Years Strong

In 2015, Nina Gray had a dream to improve the lives of other people. She had been doing that noble work for decades, but in the health and human services space, she saw gaps that she felt could be closed. There were and are so many organizations willing to assist people, but no one to connect them.

That is precisely how Collier Resource Center was born, an organization to connect people to services that can help. Ten years ago, CRC led 60 people to individualized solutions in one year. In 2025, CRC hit a milestone by assisting that number in a single week.

This year, 2025, we are celebrating Nina’s vision and CRC’s reality. We are roaring into our 10th year, helping thousands of residents in Collier County at no charge to them. And we follow up until the problem is solved.

Thank you for being an essential part of so many solutions.

OUR NEWEST TEAM MEMBER: JULIA DE LLANOS

CRC welcomes Julia De Llanos (pictured) to CRC as our new Senior Services director, a position that she’s been preparing for since childhood!

Julia grew up in a trilingual household in Miami (English, Spanish, Creole) with parents who immigrated from the Caribbean and she describes as “traditional, religious, and very charitable.” Early on, they required her to volunteer, so she served as a “candy striper” at a skilled nursing facility for senior patients. After college, she helped children who were aging out of foster care. She migrated to a career in higher education, guiding students to accessibility services, mental health resources, and employment — akin to a caseworker for college kids! The question she would ask the children and the students is the same for CRC clients now: How can we set you up to succeed?

“Being the daughter of immigrants, I definitely understand what it’s like for someone to have this dream for a better life. There are realities when you come to a foreign land or new community and you’re trying to integrate,” says De Llanos. “Whether you are young or older, it’s challenging to reach out for help. You want to figure it out on your own because there can be apprehension and fear.”

Julia is focused on identifying resources and strengthening relationships within Collier County so that CRC can pave a direct, unencumbered path for seniors in need.

OUR INGENUITY: School’s Out, CRC’s In

In the spring, Kari Lefort, CRC’s CEO gave a presentation to a gathering of Collier County high school guidance counselors about the role of CRC in the community. Enthusiastic feedback was immediate. One counselor at Aubrey Rogers High School, Lemy Chatelier, approached Kari to share that he had a very bright student about to graduate who needed help. Her family could not afford to give her a laptop for schoolwork at Florida SouthWestern State College, where she plans to attend in the fall.

Kari discussed the need with CRC staff. We happened to have a donated laptop without a home. We also provided research about government programs that offer free or discounted internet services for students. Lemy (pictured) and the student were thrilled!
