Prayer List

Today, on this Election Day, many of us may be feeling anxious and nervous as we look for the day to unfold, hoping for clarity on who the President of the United States will be for the next four years. Yet, we acknowledge that there may be a potential wait before clear victory can be declared.

Tensions are high. The pandemic, the social unrest and our deep divisions added to the stress accompanying this high-stake election season. As we navigate this and the coming days, may we find comfort in the words of the hymn "In Times of Great Decision" written by Carolyn Winfrey Gillette. Join me in this prayer:
In times of great decision, be with us, God, we pray
Give each of us a vision of Jesus' loving way.
When louder words seem endless and other voices sure,
Remind us of your promise: Your love and truth endure.

O God, whose gifts are countless, You send us bearing peace.
You fill our dreams with justice for all communities.
You give us global neighbors that all may justly live.
May those we choose as leaders reflect the life you give.

O God, you bridged the distance; You opened wide your door.
You call us by our presence to reach to serve the poor.
You teach us: Welcome strangers, seek justice on the earth.
May those we choose as leaders see every person's worth.

You call on every nation to put aside all greed,
To care for your creation and for your ones in need,
To care for those in prison, for children, for the ill.
In times of great decision, may we choose leaders well.

Amen.

This week we pray for:

Vivian Holliday's brother, Louis Holliday, Jr.
Prayers for peace and comfort for Vivian and her family as they grieve the passing of her brother Louis. Louis's older son Louis Arlo Holliday (Hal) died only 6 weeks ago. May we surround them with our love and care during this difficult time.

Monica, Sue-min Lee's daughter
Prayers for Monica, a doctor and nurse practitioner working at Ohio Health in Columbus, who contracted Covid.

Jeanne and Jim Walter, David Schmidt's sister and brother-in-law
Prayers for Jeanne and Jim as they both grapple with the virus. Jeanne's symptoms are mild. Jim hopes to be released from the hospital today or tomorrow.

Calen Relle, Candy and Ferenc's grandson
Prayers for Calen who is healing from an ankle sprain.

Kathleen Paul, Linda Barbu's sister
Prayers for strength and comfort for Kathleen who was recently diagnosed with ductal cancer.

Prayers of thanksgiving for all of you who participated in our "Adopt-a-Sunday" Black Lives Matter solidarity protest on the square this past Sunday. What a meaningful way to stand for justice and witness to our faith in public!

Continued prayers for all at the College of Wooster and at schools in our community as they continue to grapple with challenges related to rising numbers of Covid infections.

Prayers for those who struggle with isolation due to the pandemic... many in care facilities that have to bar in-person visits; who miss the comfort of a hug or hand shake; whose emotional and mental health is affected by the lack of in-person contact.

Prayers for all of those affected by the new waves of Covid-19 infections in this country and across the world. May each of us do everything to protect the wellbeing and safety of others.

Prayer Request and Privacy Laws

Please note, that because of government privacy laws, hospitals and care centers no longer are allowed to notify churches that a person has been admitted (even if the person lists their home church at admission). The only way that the church staff will know if someone is hospitalized is if a family member or friend lets us know. We'd rather get 20 calls about the same person than none! Thanks for your help in making Westminster a caring community. Contact the Westminster Office by phone 330-263-2398 or email to notify the church if you or someone you know is hospitalized or otherwise in need of our prayers!
